Colonoscopy if you had BC? ...and house

I had this bad bug from Thursday night to Sunday.  It was either a bug or stress, but Matthew had something similar just prior to me.  Everything inside my body turned to liquid and my body was making the wierdest noises!!!!!  I spent three days basically tied to a bathroom.  If it had lingered to Monday, I was going to go the doctor, but it subsided Sunday evening.
 
Talked to mom today (to tell her the house fell through, he took it off the market) and she asked me if I was better because she said she talked to a friend who had had breast cancer and she was told by her doc that she should have a colonoscopy every three years because of her history of breast cancer.  Anyone heard of this?
 
Of course, it did cross my mind while I was sick that maybe I really was very ill (had cancer) and didn't know it.  Like no one ever frets about that!!!!!!!
 
Personal note:  DH is really starting to aggrivate me.  He so doesn't want to think about planning for our future in a home and just wants to be left alone.  I'm so sick of that!  Like, be there, would ya?  I'm seriously re-considering Maine now, and am asking him about it.    When I turned it down, he was whistfully thinking about going there and possibly living there.  Now that I'm reconsidering it, he doesn't even want to go there for a vacation end of May, no pressure, just to see it!  Ladies, I'm really getting to the point....
 
Am looking at another house (by us) Thursday after work.  I'm getting really frustrated.

Good luch with the house and perhaps DH is like me -- he gets disappointed when he does not get what he wants and becomes disagreeable for a while -- let him go, he'll come through.

As for the colonoscopy, just had a medical check-up -- more about that in a minute -- and my internist said that I should get one soon and if it is negative again in 10 years, if polyps, then every two years.

Also, EVERYONE, please follow-up on every little thing regarding your overall health!!!!. When I was diagnosed with BC 16 months ago, I also had high cholesterol. No one seemed too concerned during BC treatment, for obvious reasons, but I did have a medical check-up 2 weeks ago with this and my thryoid as primary concerns. I asked a chemistry profile and a thryoid profile. I got neither. I was called back today because my TSH (thyroid sensing hormone) was elevated. Well, DUH, it always is and that is why I asked for a complete profile. When they drew blood this this morning, they also said they forgot to do the chemistry profile to check my cholesterol. This really makes me very mad. Today was
wasted time on my part to go back for this blood work when I told them in the beginning what my history and concerns were. They still ignored me. Until I got there this morning, I believed that my cholesterol was great. Wow, I may be changing medical docs soon, too.

Ellen: I'm sorry about the house deal falling thru. I always believe that things happen for a reason and it seems that this particular house wasn't meant for you and your family. There is one out there. Be patient. IT will find you! As for your frustration w/ your dh. Don't know what to say other than do what you want or feel is right. Sounds as though he hasn't and now isn't keen on moving anywhere.

As for the colonscopy...yes, I had one. It was right after I had the recurrance and we were attempting to find out where the cancer was. I have to tell you the truth. I will NEVER have another one unless they totally knock me out and tie me down. Most people don't have the same feeling that I do but my best friend told me that she had never seen my cry during any treatment or test until this one. I believe that it is just me. My surgeon and onco both are very keen on bc patients having this test done.

Judy: I would definitely find out why they ignored your requests. That is BS. My new onco ran all of the tests that I requested. Even though a couple of them she said that she normally didn't do. I told her that I had those tests done for the past 5 years and felt comfortable because I knew what to look for w/ the results. Please keep us informed.

This was not my onc, it was my internist. I felt that my new onc had enough to do and I want an internist to oversee my allergies, my thryoid, my cholesterol, my chest x-rays (former smoker), flu shots, etc.

And Deb, about the colonoscopy, around here most people do it as a same day surgery with a mild anesthia , like Versaid (SP????). I have never known anyone who has done this awake. Good grief, I'm going to put you on my hero list for a second time!!! WOW!

And Ellen, Deb's right, this one just isn't for you and one a lot better is coming along.

I had read somewhere that your chances of having colon cancer after breast cancer is a concern. My PC had me scheduled for one last summer but I started chemo and never got it done. I had a check up with her last week and she said that she wanted me to re schedule one ASAP. I have to tell you I have problems with my bowels to start with. I have never been been regular and it has gotten progessivly worse.

As far as the house goes, I'm sorry that you did not get it but maybe it was just not meant to be. There has got to be a home that will satisfy you and your DH. As far as DH goes have you ever sat down and wrote a long letter to him? Sometimes it helps to say what you need to without our emotions and temper getting the best of us.

I was never told of a connection between B/C and colon cancer. But...I sure will be looking it up. Sorry about the house. Things always happen for a reason. Usually a good one. Maybe Maine is calling to you. Be patient with the DH. Sometimes disappointment is just to much to handle. He will come around.
