Concerned about weight loss!

OK, I have read that there is quite a bit of weight loss after a fundo. What is the average? If a person were heavy to start with, will they lose more than a lighter person. If a person has a lower body fat count, will they lose muscle mass, instead of body fat. I weigh about 170 and really do not want to lose 30 lbs. I don't have it to lose. I am 5ft 9 in and I am fairly solid. If not too personal, can some of you tell me what you weighed at surgery, and what was your total loss before you started to eat normally and put some back on. I am wondering if we all lose about the same weight regardless of our fitness level, or what we weighed at surgery. I have LPR, probably due to this Hiatal Hernia. A real concern of mine.
I lost 20 pounds but as soon as I could eat normal it came back quick with friends tagging along.

Pick them up and throw them right back at them! :))
Couchtater, thanks for your replies to both my questions. Weight loss and return to normal eating is my concern. How long before you could eat normal again?
I lost about 10-15 pounds when it was all said and done. I regained my weight (and have retained it) about four months post op. However, it took me almost six months post op before I could start eating normally again.

Best of luck with your illness.
The advice I provide and present to you is solely based on research and doctor diagnosis. I am personally not a doctor. Going to a doctor is far better than listening to what I have to say.

I have experienced a lot over the course of years, and I am glad to give you some pointers to help you overcome your struggles.
i weighed just over 10 stone and dropped to 8 stone 7 lbs. I think as a rule of thumb, i would assume you'd lose around 15% body weight.

yes its a lot but it isnt permanent. im still struggling to put weight back on - i lost a lot of muscle and fat, but over time itll come back. Rather this than coping with chronic GERD any day of the week
For my second surgery, I lost 60 lbs *before* surgery (doctor incorrectly told me that losing weight would likely prevent need for surgery) and then 20 more lbs afterwards.

After about 2 months, I was able to put back on about 7 lbs.

In preparation for my third surgery, I made a conscious effort to put on another 8 lbs. I never returned to a "full" diet after the second surgery due to some vagal nerve damage -- which is certainly a possibility with any abdominal surgery. Now, almost 2 weeks post-3rd surgery, I am close to my all-time low again.

As bhamboy points out, as you return to "normal" eating, putting back on the weight may be a struggle for some people. I was finding it was "work" to keep myself from losing more.
I weighed 96 kg which included a lot of muscle mass (I trained 3 times per week resistance and ran 20-25k per week). I lost 20 kg which was a combination of muscle mass and body fat, I looked a lot thinner in the face. Anyhow I put 15kg back of which 70% was body fat as I have struggled to return to full training.

The loss for me occurred mainly in first 2weeks and didn't settle till approx 5 weeks even though I was eating high calorie foods after 3weeks.

I think that fitter people with higher percentage of muscle mass will lose more weight quicker as they tend to have a faster metabolism by definition of carrying more muscle mass, but being fitter definitely helps the recovery.
