constipation meds

Not in an IBD flare or anything but I am having very slow transit time and constipation. I've taken a lot of OTC constipation meds but getting very little success from them. Could the fact that they are not working at all indicate some form of issue in the small intestine? Stricture?
Hi Simon, strictures usually are picked up on scopes & often a person will not know they have one until they have a scope. Both constipation & diarrhea can happen with either one, also it can be IBS.

Not sure what OTC the counter remedies you have tried but one has to be consistent with the usage for a period of time to see if they get decent results. Also, making sure a person is well hydrated, depending on laxatives will dry the colon out. Some old posts here some members took magnesium pills to keep things moving. Another old, old remedy is trying some warm prune juice, you just don't want to drink too much at one time. Most people say they can't stand the smell, but if they held their nose they could get it down.

I hope you find something that helps.

I use miralax. I've found that I need to use it every day or it doesn't help much. But a full dose every day is too much. So I used about 1/3 to 1/2 dose every night, and that seems to work really well.
It could also be gastroparesis.
