Crying?

Hi everyone...........I hope everyone is doing great and feeling good.
Yes, I have another question...........I don't know if this is part of PD or perhaps something else that is going on with my Mom but I thought I would ask you guys.  My Mom cries all the time, she has no idea why she is crying?  Do any of you do this?  I know everyone is different with PD but could this be part of it?  I asked her doctor and he basically told me she is just an emotional person.  That didn't really help us.  This is very much out of character for her.  It started when we first started noticing symptoms before she was diagnost but it has continuted even after the meds were started.  Does anyone have any insight they could share?  Could this be something else setting it?

Angel,

Crying is a common symptom of depression which often occurs with PD.Tearing of the eyes also occurs with PD because people with PD dno't blink as much and the eyes tend to dry out. This occurs with me on cold windy days. Both are common with PD sufferers. You need to identify which is occuring and talk to the neuro. For tearing eye drops help,For depression related to PD; meds can help.Stay well, and I wish your mom the best.Ed

Angel,

Ed raises a couple of valid concerns: depression and drying/tearing of the eyes.

It sounds to me like depression is a more likely cause. I would be very concerned about and aware of depression. Depression can be situational (divorce, death, dealing with Parkinson's) or it can be due to a chemical imbalance. Both are common with PD. The individual has no control over depression due to a  chemical imbalance. However, there are a variety of meds that can help either cause. Meds are basically the only thing that can help if it's due to a chemical imbalance. Meds can also help if it's situational. Unfortunately, the Parkinson's 'situation' doesn't go away (unlike working through a death, divorce, etc).

Sometimes it can take awhile to get the right med and dosage in place. Hang in there because it can turn things around.

Your mother is fortunate to have an advocate like you taking such an active role in her care. I'd research depression, the causes (especially chemical imbalance) and the treatment alternatives. The right treatment can turn your mother's outlook and life around. I wouldn't settle for the explanation that your mother is an emotional person (my opinion).

Here's a link to a National Institute of Mental Health site about PD and depression: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/depparkinson.cfm  Hope this helps.

I was dx with PD in 1996.  It is difficult to say if there is any connection between crying and PD or not.  I tend to believe that there is.

I would cry for no apparent reason myself.  There is a connection between depression and PD.

about four years ago I started taking half a tablet of Paxil daily and this seemed to control the crying.  I try to keep motivated but my biggest problem if finding the meds that work for me. At the moment I am on Sinemet (regular and CR) Comtan and Domperidone.

Hope this helps.  This is my first posting.

Thanks for your post. It's great to have you.
Thanks also for sharing your story. I haven't experienced the crying or depression yet, but certainly know many witih PD have. It helps to know you're not alone.
