Sarah, I can't comment on your situation but just wanted to share what has happened to me over the last 8 months.
Every now and then I would wake up early in the morning feeling so acidic and desperately needed to eat something. I had regular heartburn after evening meals too. This progressed as time went on until eventually I could not eat certain foods such as spicy or acidic. My situation got worse over the months and antacids were not enough in the end. I wasn't able to eat much for weeks and lost lots of weight due to the symptoms.I now have pump proton inhibitors to stop the acid.
This doesn't help you I know, but I feel as though my symptoms have been a wake up call to make me change my diet and eat more sensibly. Do take care of what of you eat and I think you will be fine. It is a case of working out what is best for you. I have just started a low carb eating plan. You may have read about this in other posts such as Dr Norms.
I will be interested in hearing about your experience with this diet plan. Please post from time to time and let us know how you are doing.
I wish you luck.

My symptoms can be very inconsistent too. For me, the biggest difference is if my stomach is empty or not when I eat those "bad" foods. I seem to tolerate them alot more on an empty stomach. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think for us females, our hormones come in to play sooooooo much.
Also.....sometimes I think I have a sliding hiatal hernia, and if it's "up", then I get all the bad symptoms. But I don't get them if it's "down".
Why don't you keep track of your cycle.....and see if you can find any correlation.
Also....might it be a combination of foods?? At least there are some times when you can get by eating the bad stuff!
