Estring

Has anyone ever used an Estring? I have been totally opposed because of the estrogen, but my onc at this point says he is willing to give the okay for a while. All the docs seem somewhat convinced that the UTI and urinary problems I'm having may really be caused by lack of estrogen. Though it's not a perfect solution, at this point I'm kind of at my wit's end. I haven't been willing to take the risk before, but I think I'm getting desperate. Any words of advice?

Hi Ro!  Yes, I have been using the Estring and it has help a lot! My dr. says that the  small amount estrogen that is released is absorbed locally and does not pose any risk for us.  The other rings have too much estrogen and he won't let me use them. Here in the east the estring has been discontinued and the only option I have is to use a suppository called Vagifem which is made by the same manufactourer as the estring. It's not as convenient, but does the same thing.  I was very uncomfortable before, and I think it is definately helpful! Hugs, Frayda

Hi Frayda, You said you used the Estring but it has been discontinued. So I'm assuming you are not using it at all anymore and using Vagifem. My onc said he preferred the Estring to Vagifem, but if I couldn't use the Estring, Vagifem would be okay. I do not think I'm going to be able to comfortably use the Estring. It seems to be too uncomfortable. I'll try to talk to my gyn, but first have to get this whole urinary/bladder situation figured out.

Frayda, I forgot to ask in my last post...why was the Estring discontinued on the East coast?
