Welcome to the forum I am very glad that you found us and I am sure you will find the support that you are looking for.
Depression does take all of our energy, and we really have to fight to get it back.
How long have you been on the meds? if it has been longer than 3-4 months, and you are not feeling any better I suggest contacting your doctor and letting them know.
Do not get frustrated...meds affect different people in different ways and sometimes it might take a few tries with changing meds to get what works for you.
In the meantime one thing to try is trying to pull yourself out of the slumber and doing something like simply taking a nice walk,or going for a bike ride.
I would make a list for your doctor before you go,take your time on it,and list all of your symptons of how bad you are feeling .
Please keep us posted.

Shy has given you good advice. Sun is good for people with depression so try to get outside. Start with a short walk. Set some goals.
What is your dose on the Cymbalta as perhaps you just need a boost in the dose or you have not been on it long enough.
Joining this forum was a positive step in the right direction.

Hi Stayingafloat and welcome to HealingWell,
Shy and Kitt have made some good points (Leaving me with not much to say! lol) Contacting the doc about the meds is a good idea if you find they are not working... it may be as simple as changing them to one that suits you better. As for sunshine... its FULL of Vit D. Which have been proven to help with depression. Also, exercise itself helps depression since it increases bloodflow to the brain etc...
Do you have a dog? Walking the dog is great exercise. Also, playing with the kids in the garden is good too. Not too stressful, but enough to get your pulse going. You may have to force yourself to start with but, keep with it. Its SOOOO worth it!
All the best

What I found was just getting going was the hard part. Once I got moving, it was easier to keep moving. I had to take things in extremely small steps. When I say extrememly small steps, I would say:
I'm going to roll over.
I'm going to sit up in bed.
I'm going to stand up.
I'm going to take a few steps.
I know how that sounds, but I was very depressed. As I did that more and more, it got easier.
You're holding a lot in emotionally and you are in a lot of pain. You have to talk to people to get it out so you can... cry and begin getting some of your troubles behind you and in perspective.
Talking in this forum will help, and I advise you to do so a lot. I think it's more important that you see a professional you can talk to.
Set some small goals every day. Actually make a list so you can check each one off. It shows movement. Make sure the goals are achieveable. So start small. Once you do that, you can go to larger goals.
When I was going through the toughest times I kept a journal. It would let me get some of my thoughts and feelings out and on paper. Just make sure you don't use the journal as a club beating yourself up. It's purpose is to help you deal with your situation.
Realize you are not alone. I remember when I was in group therapy realizing that I wasn't the only person in the world having problems. Before that I felt so alone and that everyone else was living easy productive lives. That wasn't the case. No one escapes tough times. But it's so easy to assume that no one has the problems you do. They do.
Direction determines destination. You've got to start moving in the right direction. Actually, you've taken a very good beginning by coming to this forum. You've got a long way to go, but each step will bring you closer to a better life.
All the best.

I am hanging in there, o.k. day today. I am glad my Dr. finally listened to me, I think it is goig to help a little zoned out while adjusting, but I know it takes time. The only negative I realized is cymbalta was actually decreasing the nerve pain and now it is stronger again. I am taking hydrocodone for the pain, which my Dr. does not want to prescribe and I understand, but w/out anything for the pain, there isn't much I can do. It is all a process, life sure can throw some weird curve balls at ya. Well just wanted to check in to let you all know that things are slowely getting better. Take care!
