I usually post on the IBS board, but I am needing your "GERD help"...and I appreciate all of you insight on GERD because I'm new to it.
First of all, I started to have diarrhea/loose stools in mid-March and have had it every day since without 1 normal bowel movement. Talk about worry a girl!
Anyway, I have been through the ringer with test after test, including...colonoscopy, EGD, ultrasound of gallbladder, abdomen and pelvis, CT scan of abdomen and pelvis, hida scan of gall bladder, a number of stool cultures, urinalysis, blood tests, etc. The only thing ght Gastrointerologist "found" was GERD while performing my EGD. He showed me a picture of my lower esophogas with the irritation and it looked like a "red line" shooting upwards...didn't look too long, but it was not a very big picture. ANyway, he said it wouldn't be causing my diarrhea, but I still had GERD, nevertheless. End result, my GI doctor said I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) with diarrhea and not to come back for a year. I still have the diarrhea problem DAILY.
Here's my concern. Since this so called IBS-D started, I have been burping a lot after eating (when have an appetite, having diarrhea everyday does something to your appetite). I also have a feeling of fullness in my stomach that goes up to my mid chest. It's like I feel like I am going to vomit but I never do. I don't feel nauscious all day...In fast, I wouldn't call this feeilng nauscious...I'd call it a full feeling that goes up my esophagas.
Is this normal for GERD??? I dn't know much about it...just that it is an acid problem and it backflows into your esophagus causing irritation. Can IBS-D and GERD be related? I just need some comforting words. I am so worked up and worried about all of this. Which reminds me to ask, can stress effect GERD too??
hi, sorry you are having the big D i also have ibs and gerd. yes the symtoms you describe sound like gerd, i would suggest not eating til you are full, just have a smaller portion and eat as blandly as possible. also, what helps my D is taking calcium, that hardens stools, does cause constipation(i consider that a good thing) however do not take the one with magnesium, as that will loose your stools. that is a healthy way to try something new. there are these chewable tablets you can buy at the health store not too expensive called DGL, it is an enzyme that might help the gerd, i am using it, and one last final biggie, acidolpolis, i take it daily and it helps alot, if you saty on it , nothing works before a month or so. also, i ssume you have tried imodium once or twice a week, right? i want to say that if you are an A type you carry around a lot of hidden stress, can you chill out a bit, i say this cause i am such an A type and staying de-stressed really helps. how old are you?
Yes, I have those symptoms. I hate it. It's like everything is swelling up in there. My GERD waxes and wanes, but the first thing I notice with a flare up is my midriff area feels huge......like I've just eaten a huge meal, when I haven't. I feel like I'm totally constipated, but I'm not. Then the pressure and fullness starts going up into my chest. Sometimes it even reaches my neck. What helps me is to eat very little for a few days, and it seems to calm down a bit. It's a very uncomfortable feeling.
A feeling of fullness could mean gastroparesis which is delayed gastric emptying, which can cause GERD as well. With all your testing it doesn't look like that was looked into, you might want to suggest that to your doctor.
Hi all...to answer your questions, I am a 26 year old female and currently about 113 lbs. (Weighed 118 in January.) I have had diarrhea everyday since mid-March. It has calmed down from 5-8 times a day to 1-2 times a day. I am currently not on any medications after trying about 10 of them, but I have decided to go to a "natural" doctor that believes in natural treatments. He has putme on 4 supplements now...including, Zymex, Choline, Cholocal II, and Trace Minerals B-12.
I have had a colonoscopy, EGD, CT scans, ultrasounds, stool cultures, etc. They found that I had GERD and slight Superior Mesentery Artery Syndrome (where the duodenum is kinked a little). My Gastrointerologist insisted that I have an EGD to check it out to make sure that my stomach could empty properly and he said that it isn't that bad and that I shouldn't have any problems with the emptying of my stomach and he said that I could just be "built like that." (Meaning I could have been like this all of my life.) All else aside, none of these things would cause diarrhea.
I just don;t really understand what GERD is all about and was wondering if there is some natural remedy to take away the fullness feeling.
I have a big stomach too. I am also big on top. I do not like having such a big stomach. I am trying to lose weight and realize it can only benefit me for my medical conditions.
I read up on stomach bloating and believe it or not, they suggested water as the way to help control it. Before menopause, it was connected with pain.
Hi Shelly, something that helped me was to not drink water immediately or right after meals. It is good if you wait about an hour before drinking again. Try eating as many small meals as you can, and stop eating late afternoon so the fullness does not keep you up at night.
I have the exact same symptoms. The diarrhea has been for months. Imodium and peptones do not work. I feel full just like you described - exactly. Going for a endo/colonoscopy in 3 days.
