Again this arises out of my non-UC friend’s colonoscopy. This is an FYI for anyone who is on GLP1 meds. My friend used Colyte for her prep, same as what I use, but was alarmed at how long it took to start working. She started drinking it at 6 pm and nothing started moving until 12:30. Today at her scope she was told that the GLP1 meds slow down the colon, so at her next scope she is to stop taking the GLP1 three weeks ahead of time.
When I had my scope the instructions said to stop Ozempic and other diabetes meds 7 days, but didn’t mention GLP1s specifically. I can understand why they would want GLP-1s stopped longer because of how they work, but what do patients who take them for diabetes do? 3 weeks seems like a long time to be without their meds.
Yeah good point! In my friend’s case she is taking it for weight loss.
My husband has diabetes & he was not told to take his diabetes medication for his scope.
I haven’t posted for a very long time but my uc has changed since being on Mounjaro and now Wegovy. My ulcerative colitis has completely subsided and I am now no longer taking Humira. In fact, I am more constipated these days. I don’t know whether this is down to my 3 stone weight loss, which has reduced my inflammation? Have there been other stories regarding this? I can’t say my osteoarthritis is improved - probably a little worse. I always think inflammation will out and find somewhere else to migrate to in the body. Has anyone heard of a dramatic remission on GLP1 meds? Thanks Cath from Brighton xx
Hi Cath. I am not sure if you will get many people seeing your question since this is a post about scope prep primarily. However, if you scroll down just a little bit, there is a thread titled “Glp1 wegovy”. You should take a look at that one and maybe post your question there. Or start a new post if you want.
