How does this heat affect you with heart disease,? I found out myself I can't stand it long .It is like opening up a very hot oven in my face. Can you stand the heat without the humidty? or do you want the humidity.? Right now it is 98 outside at 6 :15 P.M.and feels like 96 in the shade after a high of 98 and heat index at 113. Please share your ideas how you as a heart Survivor deals with heat in the state you live in.????

I live in the middle of Texas and it's August so I can guarantee that it is hot outside! lol I love being warm, but when you stand to water a few pots of flowers and just sweat - Blech!

Well, the short answer is that I stay in the A/C almost all the time. When I go outside, it feels like somebody just handed me a grand piano to carry around...in quicksand. In the first minute I feel a big drop in blood pressure which is already low to begin with, and I feel like I weigh 1000 lbs. Once I'm back inside it takes about 1/2 hr for that to subside - it really kicks my behind. Last year about this time, as the first hurricane blew by and widely missed us (in Miami) my power went out for 4 days. (shame on FPL, it was only 40mph winds) It was very uncomfortable but I survived it well enough. If that happened this year in heat like this, I think it would probably put me in the hospital. Even being in the A/C when it's this hot and humid outside I have practically no appetite at all, which sort of makes no sense! 
oona I am not hungery at all in the heat either but more thirsty but try to eat a little something too. maybe something light like a bowl of ceral with fruit over it or a cold spahettie salad with tomatoes etc in it too. But I am like you in this heat and humidity not hungery.
And lets hope fro everyone in the heat no power outages due to roaming brownouts with peop;le using alot of electricty we have fans and window units on and shades pulled down etc. But oona I am in the same boat as you just not hungery.

This is something I can respond to. Michigan is generally not as hot as it has been this year. In fact, I do not recall a summer so hot and humid any part of my life. My 86 y o mother says that it was like this a couple of other times that she can remember, but not very often. I've had a very difficult time with the heat and (mostly) the humidity. I stay in the a/c most of the time. I go from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to my ac office, etc. When I do have to be in it for any period of time I feel like I can hardly pick up my feet to walk and feel like I weigh five hudnred pounds. I love warm weather, but since the CHF and MI I can't take it. I also must add that my weight is a big contributor to this I am sure.

I haven't been a summer/hot weather person since I was 15!!!! No kidding, I just hate it, here in NY its been quite HOT and HUMID. Being older and all I especially hate it. Really tough to breathe especially with asthma, YUCK. It's been really bad this year, working in NYC with all the tall buildings and heavy traffic and everything just hanging in the air, it is quite awful. Florida I remember being humid and hot too! Thank God for A/C. How on earth did people survive in the old days??????? Strange as it may seem, some days I'm hungry like a dog!!!! Go figure.

Ihave a heart friend in briarwood,NY and met one on this HW board from centerrech Ny such a small world. I also have a friend in Ny up in catskills (sp) who hates it. and my husbands friend in calif canot deal wiht it they live in Millbrae and it is up in 70-80"s and low 50's at night. now that is my type of weather.
Meery me I remember my grandmas place in Ind windows open and a small metal fan goingat night and seing fireflies ut the window and a pot upstairs no ujsing outhouse at night. Makes me wonder from the time I was 6 on every llace I lived in with my folks had Ac and heat even the cars . Bt once I got married we lived in a beach apt back in late 70's no ac just fans and beach breeze in summer time it was hot so we moved to an Apt with AC. Yes I dowonder how we did it. you take care and take iteasy breathing in all thoise NY fumes too that isnot good for yu either.

I can't complain about the heat up in Wisconsin today. It is down right chilly. I do have problems with breathing and just feeling yucky when it is really hot and humid though. I have asthma in addition to the heart disease. I don't know if I can really call myself older at age 42. I have a hard time with winter too. That is worse than summer for me. Barb

hi Barb last night at 1 pm it was 88 and heat index at 95 and now it is 99 and heat index at 112 uck I am inside nad plan when i get the energey to help hang new paneling in the front room probably do it tomorow sometime. Then the stores are coming out with fall clothes and we donot wer heavy stuff like that here in Florida often. I still have my red cashmere coat Stanley got for me back in 1999 from Burlington and it is a long coat. now the cold on the other hand makes me ache all over and brings uot my Arthritis.

Hey, we are finally having some "normal" Michigan weather here. It was in the low seventies today. Felt GREAT!!! It did feel a little cold when I was up in central MI this weekend, but I was afraid to complain or we'd get some more of that humidity and high heat, lol. I dont' know how some of you in FL, TX and other hot states can stand it!
P.S. I'm with you Teri. I still like warm better than cold. (just not humidity. I guess I'm in the wrong state because we tend to have quite a bit here. Maybe AZ is the answer, haha!)

Kathy, 70? lol That's fall weather! - it's still August for a little while anyway. But you are right, each place offers it's good and bad, though some worse than others.
