Help! Hubby has horrible allergies

Whoa, how does changing your diet effect your asthma or allergies from effects of outside allergens? Sometimes no matter what is changed in your lifestlye, like you said, will alter the fact that someone will have to rely on those meds for the rest of their life. It's great that you are feeling better and it's wonderful that your allergies are gone.
I personally cannot digest fish oil. Tears my poor intestines up!
I have to go sleep now because i have work later on... I'll reply more later but have you ever tried

-  Green Tea - Green tea contains an ingredient that acts as a natural antihistamine (you can get EGCG capsules wchich are equal to 10 cups of tea)
-  Flax seed Oil - Anti Inflammatory and you body convert to EPA/DHA Omega 3.

I was also diagnosed with IBS and had stomach problems for a while but not diagnosed with GERD or anything. I seem to have gotten over both now. Everything that was wrong with me like frequent headaches (which lasted for weeks), allergies, heart burn, IBS etc.. all cleared with good nutrition.

There were occasions when taking fish oil would make me feel sick a bit later. Mostly if I took it at night tho...

Another benifit i've noticed is that I don't really get sick anymore, flu, colds and other infections have come into the house now 3 times in the past few months, plus all my close friends have been ill, my both teachers and students have been ill and plenty of people at work.

So there is a lot of benifits to gain from doing something simple and slowly changing your diet.  Oh and cut out refined sugar :)

It has been known for a long time that eating healthy foods such as fresh veggies and fruits will keep the body (and it's immune system) strong. So I can see where by eating healthy it can help your body fight off the ever draining effects of allergies. Our body is like the engine of a car, kept up properly it will get you where you want to go for years but you let the maintenance slide and it starts to sputter.
I drink green tea in moderation but I have never tried flax seed oil. I am very leary about using any of the natural remedies because of my Uc and I have been doing great lately and I don't want to throw a wrench into the scheme of things for me. Unfortunately that also means that I can't eat the raw fruits or veggies so the main nutrition I get is from other sources as well as a good multivitamin.
I sincerely hope things continue to go well for you and eating healthy is always a good thing!
It seems, although I can not tell for certain, you are probably deficient in omega 3 which would clearly make any problems you do have even worse.

Here are some common problems associated with a deficiency:
dyslexia, violence, depression, memory problems, weight gain, cancer, heart disease, eczema, allergies, inflammatory diseases,
arthritis and diabetes.
I think it's something definitly worth looking into...

You do know that Omega 3 Supplementation is thought to be an effective treatment for Ulcerative Colitis, right?
Allergies are apt to be more active with an Omega 3 deficiency? Hmm very interesting. Is there another way to get Omega 3 without the fish oil capsules?
I am also the moderator over at the Uc forum and many of our members there are on the fish oil which seems to help them but the other half is like me, they can't tolerate the fish oil. I have tried it numerous times in the past and unfortunately it makes my symptoms a lot worse then without it. Very interesting articles though, thank you smile
This definately should be looked into for people with allergies. Anyone with allergies will try almost anything to help alliviate their symptoms. Do you happen to know if this will help asthma sufferers as well?
Hi Sherry,
Sorry to jump in. Have you tried flaxseed oil supplements? This is also an omega-3 supplement and you might have not so hard of a time with this. I currently take this and have not had any problems.
Des, you can jump in anytime you want smile No, I haven't tried the flaxseed yet and it's something that I will definately look into. If Omega 3 will help my allergies then I think I will pick some up on my next visit to the health food store, is this is capsule form too?
Yes it is Sherry and you can get probably anywhere, I get mine at my local CVS. It looks like any other oil capsule. smile
Well I'm not entirely sure on asthma because I havent really looked into it but according to my friend liam he is doing much better. He used to get a lot of cougthing at night... now that has gone he says.  He takes

A multivitamineral (cant give name on here)
EGCG Max Supplement ( equivelent of 10 cups of Green tea )  - This I highly recommend!  PLus it would definintly help with allergies -  Don't take at same time as food (interefers with absoprtion of certain vitamins/minerals)
Omega 3 supplement - Everyone should be getting n-3 but 90% of people are deficient, but omega 3 is now being introduced into foods like yogurts in small amounts.

Whether or not you believe simple things can help, you should give these things a try. When I had problems I think that I was going to be stuck with them for life! But with a bit of researching and understanding nutrition and supplements I overcome my problems.

I hope you try some new things and see what happens.  Also, things don't improve over night, give it a few weeks atleast.

Your body and Brain NEEDS omega 3 for proper function, it's a very important fatty acid. You should be getting it in diet somehow regardless if you have problems or not :)

if you were to get flax seed oil or something that has omega 3 you should store it in a COLD DARK place to slow down oxidation which would be harmful.
