I have been sick since Jan. Gallbladder removed in March. I am still miserable, been constipated since gb surgery. I just don't understand it was d before the surgery. My 16 yr old started getting the d next thing I know she is constipated. My feet at times swell & hers are starting to do the same. Has anyones feet bothered them with Ibs. I am real concerned about this. It was bad enough when it was me , but I don't know what to do for myself let alone her. This is terrible when you have no answers for your child. The doc gave her some amitiza. Has anyone tried this? My pharmacist has not even heard of it. I don't care too much about putting her on a drug they don't know much about.
I have gallstones and IBS but i have not had problems with my feet or any type of swelling at all. You might consider if it is the both of you that have this problem, then it is probably environmental. IBS and gallstones, althoe can be genetic are not contageous. Perhaps next time it happens you should get a second opinion or go to an emergency room. But i know , my doctor has put me through 8 different IBS medication and the side effects were so sever i am scared now of just 'trying' more. I have still not found one i can tolerate.
So get a second opinion, ( but dont mention what the previous dr. perscribed until the end.) and if a second unrelated dr. says thats what he reccomends then i would try it.Good luck, i am haveing surgery in a month to get my gallbladder out so if you figure out what is wrong, post it on here if you can. thanks.
Swelling in the feet is not related in any way, that I am aware of, to gall bladder problems. It's just like Josey said, bad gall bladders can be herditary, but it is weird that your daughter has the same symptoms as you right this minute. I think both of you should see a doctor together and say hey, look, we're both having these weird symptoms. Can you test us for things that would cause these symptoms and could be caught by two people in the same house? Parasites and c. difficile can both be transmitted by toliet seats, although I think diarrhea is the usual symptom for all of them (clean toliets with bleach to kill all these bugs). You may both be allergic to the same thing since allergies are also often herditary; have you changed your cleaning products lately? Have you any cause to have gotten mold in your house? Have you gotten a new pet? I can't really figure out how an allergic reaction to something other than food would cause constipation, but then swelling of the extremities is not really a symptom of gut problems either; you may have two seperate things going on at once.
Make sure you analyze what you are eating as well. I know once, when I was growing up, that I complained to my mother of suddenly being constipated and she said that she was bad constipated too and we finally decided that the dehydrated banana chips we were eating was making us constipated. So be sure to look at foods that both you and your daughter are eating as a possible culprit. Or, if you are both on a diet; low fat diets can lead to constipation, as can the low-carb ones.
Couldn't the swelling be totally unrelated to the GI system and be vascular? My friend has Lymphedema and her feet are ALWAYS swollen. It's a hereditary condition. Kyhurst, it might be a good idea, as mentioned above, to go see a doc together.Co-Moderator for the IBS Forum
I agree with them kyhurst. Swelling feet is not a symptoms of IBS. I believe there may be more going on with that. Don't want to scare you but I really think that this needs to be discussed with the doc immediately.
