Hepatitis C and Kidney Disease

I was diagnosed, through blood tests 2 years ago, as having Hep C. I'm also HIV positive. However, based on blood test results, a specialist at a local university clinic indicated that I'd tested false-positive for the Hep C. But recently, due to high creatinine levels, I've been diagnosed with kidney problems. A biopsey is to follow, but my new renal specialist is suggesting that my kidney problems are Hep C related. However, I cannot find anything anywhere that relates Hep C and kidney problems.

I know that liver disease affects the kidneys, because we went through lots of testing and treatment for my fiance. Though I tried, I couldn't begin to explain it, so I started 'running' all over the net.  Until today, I just couldn't find a thing worth reading.
 
Try googling Hepatorenal Syndrome. I'm not suggesting that this is your situation. But the underlying information about how liver disease affects blood flow to the kidneys might be what you are looking for. The articles from MedlinePlus are usually pretty good.  ecureme.com has a decent article, as well.

I guess what baffles me about this situation is that I'm showing absolutely no symptoms of having Hepatitis C - thus the false-positive diagnosis. I guess the biopsy will explain everything.

I'm glad I could help.

Hepatitis C is just one cause of liver disease and it doesn't necessarily have symptoms. That's what makes it so difficult to diagnose. It's also why a lot of people have trouble pinpointing when they contracted it.  We still aren't sure how my fiance was infected, though he is a 'Nam era vet.

I wish you all the best on the biopsy. When is it scheduled?

Fiance had HCV, cirrhosis, ESLD, ascites, and portal hypertension. Was transplanted June 2004.  Now, on interferon and ribavirin. Hepatitis C is back.
