I haven’t been around in a long time but I need to ask a question.
How likely is it, being on Remicade, for me to contract Hand, foot and mouth disease from my 1 year old grandson who lives me?
I know HFMD is mostly a childhood illness, but it has been seen in adults, especially with compromised immune systems. And to be honest, I’m a bit worried because he was diagnosed today and I’m due for my next infusion a week from now.

Hey Sherry! Missed you 😁
I sure hope you don't get it.
It's a highly contagious virus, contracted through saliva, snot, body fluids including stool. The person who has it is most contagoius before the rash appears....but can contunie to be contagious for weeks.
If you've never had it, you could contract it. As an adult, sometimes symptoms aren't present (I'm assuming meaning rash), but one can still be contagious.
I would be concerned for you.... especially if you were changing diapers or wiping snotty nose over the past week.
Can you postpone your treatment for another week?
Wash hands a lot. I read that bedding, clothes, etc should be thoroughly washed, separately would be good.
Please keep us updated on how you're doing.

Hi Sherry, glad you dropped by to say hi!
I'd just be more vigilant with handwashing and try to not get fluids like spit/poop on you. Seems it can persist on child for a few weeks after symptoms disappear.

Oh no! I don’t have any idea how much more likely you are to get it while in Remi. If you had it as a child you are likely to have some immunity to it. That is the absolute worst childhood illness I have ever dealt with. My older son had it when I was 28 weeks pregnant with my younger son and my midwives had me washing my hands, changing clothes 2x a day and wiping everything he touched down with germicidal wipes. I was told to keep as much distance as I could, but as you know, a 2.5 year old who feels crummy wants to he held all the time. My husband d took two days off work to be with us to help me deal more with sanitizing and less with child care.
Glad you are well otherwise and hope you don’t catch it!
42 yrs old diagnosed with proctosigmoiditis 6/13/13
meds- 2 Lialda + sfRowasa every other night- supplements: probiotics (1 VSL3 cap, 1 culturelle and 1 reuteri) 1 gram krill Oil, 1TBSP p. seed powder, 2 g curcumin. Allegra for seasonal allergies as needed. Allergic to sulfites. Currently gluten/dairy free (except yogurt) and eating lots of RS.

Thanks all! I’ve missed you all too. But I’ve moved on because my health has stabilized finally and I feel in control. Plus I’ve been super busy with the grandson lol
Q - I really can’t postpone because I go every 8 weeks for my Remi and at 7 weeks my symptoms start coming back (gut cramping, D and urgency).
As for washing hands, we’ve been doing it like crazy especially after changing his diapers. We have disinfected the house many many times already including toys and yes toddlers touch EVERYTHING! Actually this house is pretty darn sterile by now. Since Christmas, at first our grandson got sick with the stomach bug, than my daughter got it New Year’s Eve, than my son got a mild version, than I got it (which resulted in an ER trip due to dehydration because of severe vomiting) than my husband got it. Than my grandson fell in the bathtub, busted his eye open which required 4 stitches only to get a severe ear infection a few days later and he had a good few weeks of feeling good only to develop HFMD. This has not been a good year for us lol
