My husband recently (last week) had a reversible colostomy. He's home and is doing well. The main thing troubling him is the type of bag the hospital ET suggested- one piece Coloplast with velcro closure. It is very hard for him to empty because the opening is so small. He was thinking about a two piece appliance where the bag is thrown away each time instead of emptied. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I called each before my surgery, but only Hollister would send samples. After my surgery, the other two sent me some samples. They were very helpful.
Do a google search on each, I'm sure they have websites and 800#'s.

Thank you. He's getting a little better each day from his surgery.
After lots of experimenting this is the system I settled on. I wear the 2 piece Hollister New Image closed bag along with the Colomajic liners.
1. The closed bag is nice because there isn't a clip to deal with.
2. The 2 piece is nice because the bag just snaps on and off.
3. The Colomajic liners are convenient, cheap and cut down on odor. You just put out the liner and flush it! Put in a new liner and away you go. It's much cheaper than throwing away the closed end bags several times a day.
Option number 2:
Hollister has a one piece Contour I bag that is VERY easy to put on and pull off. If you don't want to deal with the flange on the 2 piece this is a nice alternative.
Option number 3:
For people with permanent colostomies, irrigation avoids all of the above and can be the easiest solution of all!
