Any suggestios about someone like me who has IBS but without C or D. Just the urgency to go to the bath room 3 or four times a day?
Robert S.
Do any foods trigger the sudden urge? If you don't have C or D, then perhaps it is something in your diet that triggers your intestines to contract irregularly, such as caffeine or sugar? Just a thought; I'm not familiar with IBS sans C or D.

No help here, but let me find out when you find out :)
What is the impact of sugar on IBS?
Robert
Depends on the sugar. Most normal people--much less IBSers--can't tolerate much if any sugar alcohols, which are found in low-sugar and sugar-free products (common forms being sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol)--including sugar free gums and mints.
Some people can not tolerate one or more of the artificial sugars, such as Sweet N'Low, Equal, Twin or Splenda.
Some people don't tolerate high fructose corn syrup very well. And some just don't do well with too much regular sugar. There is some speculation that people with certain kinds of IBS--i.e. the kind that is caused by bacterial overgrowth or bad bacteria--are made worse by sugar because sugar (as a simple carbohydrate) is what the bacteria feed on and it just makes them multiply more and get more active. The IBS diets you see advertised on the web usually are based on the assumption that simple carbs make your IBS worse. If your IBS is caused by bacterial imbalance, this could be possible, but it won't do a thing if your IBS is caused by anything else, like parasites, food allergies, etc.

Hi Robert,
I sometimes have days where i need to go to the toilet a lot but I dont have c or d like you say. Its very strange. I get a lot of cramps though.
Refined sugar has an impact on IBS. I know it can give me d when I eat too many biscuits, cakes etc.
