Irritated by new site

I’m fairly annoyed I had to reset my pw… but parts of the site aren’t loading for me… guess I’ll check back later to see if it improves

Oh supposedly they implemented direct messaging. That’s handy if it works. Listing everyone’s “realname” though? Not cool.

yeah strange mix of good and not so good it seems

really hard to understand after several people messaged admin and the owner about the real name issue - why that was not addressed - as clearly its just a field that can be included or not depending on the settings they choose - very odd

the search function working properly is a big positive though. i did a quick test and found the post i was looking for at the top of the page of results - that almost never happened before - and should make the site far more useful to people looking for input on specific topics from the huge archive. so this is the most positive thing i have seen in terms of function of the forum in many years.

it also looks like you can embed images directly in posts now - so tahts a real step forward compared to where it was before that was a multistep process that most people found difficult

the three lines of viewable text to type replies in is needlessly restrictive - you cannot see what you have written or how it lays on the page

and ref instant messaging - i am not sure if it has much value - for me anyway - not everything needs to be like social media - this forum works precisely because it is not that

i was surprised to see posts from the original owner / instigator of the forum that are current - i had thought he was likely no longer involved since no-one seemed to hear from him - but it seems like there may be a few people at least part time behind the scenes now - which should be enough to maintain and improve it over time

lets hope they continue to iterate and improve it

My question is if there is a way to quickly jump to the last post in a long thread. Search function working better is a huge plus.

i noticed this also - getting to the bottom of Palermo’s - not much improvement - thread took ages as you cant scroll straight to the bottom - you have to wait for the page to load multiple times … you would think a “back to top” and “most recent post” would be doable

just found the quote function though

hahah yeah took me ages to get it. but yes you can jump straight on the last post, but it is a bit of a bad design to understand the function to be honest. but overall it has also some good feature

Oh look it’s gone back to posting my “realname.” It looked like it disappeared for a bit. Looks like there’s a chat function too.

I liked the old phpbb forum more. Ah well, guess we’ll have to adapt.

ok i figured out that if you click on the number on the far right of a post in the forum where it says how long ago the last post was - that will take you to the last post - i.e. direct to bottom of the page without scrolling.

also the v small reply box is the default - but if you click the arrows on the top right of that small box it will open to a more or less full page view

so most of the functionality you would want is there - just not always obvious

This thing is awful. I couldn’t even login with my old login and password. I to request a link. I found the place to get to my account settings and was able to change my display name back to my forum name. However it shows my login, and I can’t edit that. There’s no edit option for it.

Hi dear friends, I have had hard time as well, needed to create new account…Anyway hopefully it will work now…

Ok as irritated as I’ve been, the ability to direct message and see notifications has been nice… still weird out by “realname” being sporadically posted…

I don’t even see the realname option in my profile anymore, and the ID I was using on site before upgrade is totally gone now.

i noticed the variableness in how usernames/ real names were displayed - perhaps the owners are finally listening to feedback and trying to implement improvements and so although the process might not be as smooth or as quick as we might like - it may actually be a positive sign that they are at least trying to get things right.

i saw the forum rules have been updated to forum guidelines and now seem rather reasonable.

so it may continue to be a 2 step forwards 1 step back type of trajectory - but hopefully heading in the right direction over time
