If this is a repeat post, I apologize. I feel like I need to be more specific. So I had my J-pouch surgery 9 & a half years ago. And for most of the time I was in a program for people with mental illness. Well the program ended in late January, I want to do other things. I've been going to church & been working on getting back into college.
Now, for anyone that has the j-pouch I've been wondering has anyone ever played sports or done any other physical activity (working out)? I been working on getting back into Martial Arts training but I'm afraid of getting an accident so I'm trying to eat less food in case if I go compete in a tournament. I've been anxious about that. So I was wondering what your experience like was when having the J-pouch & moving around?
Thanks

You can dehydrate easier with a j-pouch when exercising intensely, especially during summer heat (the large intestine normally re-absorbs water from stool). So, be mindful of your hydration levels.
Not sure there's many jpouchers who post regularly here. I'd check https://www.reddit.com/r/jpouch/ or https://www.j-pouch.org/ if you don't get a sufficient response and answer.

There's professional athletes with a j-pouch who perform at the top of their game: https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/patientsandcaregivers/ibd-me/ibd-heroes so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks ipoop sorry I didn't thank you early. I never got the email notification.
Usually eat on lighter side if im going to gym/walking etc.
I’m a contractor and my work is somewhat physical so I have learned to eat carefully bc I don’t like being full whether working or exercising.
God bless and good luck🙏
It is inspiring to hear you are looking to get back into martial arts! Many people find that they can return to sports after a J-pouch surgery, though it usually involves a bit of trial and error with diet and hydration. Taking it slow and listening to your body is key, but don’t let the fear hold you back from the things you love.
