Hi Johanna, I am sorry your Mom has breast cancer, and I know that you are very worried. We will be with you both all the way, so please stick with us. Keep us updated with her story and we will try to help you understand as best we can what certain things mean. She is very blessed to have a daughter like you. My daughter was my rock and best friend when I was diagnosed. There are many women that are living good lives since breast cancer. One of the ladies here is over 20 years out since her diagnoses. So there IS life after breast cancer. We will hold your hand the whole way if you want. Please let us know how she is doing. Hugs, Gail

I too am sorry about your mother's breast cancer, but it is not a death sentence. You have found a wonderful online site that will be of great help and support for you. You are a good daughter. Stick by her side and educate yourself and her about the disease. Knowledge is power. Please keep us informed about your Mother and about you! We are always here; 24/7. Good Luck to you and your mother. You are both in my prayers.
Hugs,

Hi Johanna, I just want to add my welcome. I know this is a frightening time for you. My daughter was 20 and a college student when I was diagnosed in 1996. She went to her professors to tell them what was going on in her personal life and they were all willing to give her extra time to get assignments completed. You might want to confide in someone at your school so they now you are under some extra stress right now. Please keep us posted on how your mam is doing. Like Candy said, we are here for each other 24/7. Try to remain hopeful. You mam really needs your support right now. Just let us know what we can do for you. Hugs, Lauri

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Welcome Johanna. I'm new here too, and have found the ladies here to be wonderful, supportive and knowledgeable. I wish you and your mam all the best, and don't worry about asking alot of questions!

Johanna, I'm so sorry you have to be here, but I'm glad your mother has your full support. I am 5 1/2 years out of diagnosis and proof that there is "normal" life after BC! Stay with us and let us help you any way we can. Hugs, Julie
Hi Johanna, I want to say welcome to our breast cancer forum. I know it is frightening for you to deal with your mother's breast cancer when you are so young and probably know little about the disease. There are all types of breast cancer, most of the time it is very treatable and not a threat. You will learn after her surgery from her pathological report about her cancer. The lymph system is a series of nodes which normally handles carrying off infections and is a part of the immune system. If cancer cells go to the lymph system it is possible they can go to other parts of the body and show up there as cancer but still breast cancer features. The oncologist (cancer doctor) decides on treatment depending on the pathology and if the cancer has spread to the lymph system. I tried to say this so you could understand in case you had no idea about it. Please feel free to come with questions. Hugs MK

Hi Johanna, your mother had a mastectomy. That is what the majority of us have had, I believe. Sometimes chemo treatment is done next. And also radiation treatments. Keep us posted how your mom is doing and tell her we are all saying prayers that she will recover soon. Hugs Mary K.
