just turned 21...Suffering with IBS for atleast 5 years now.

Hi...My name is jon i'm from Superior, WI. I've had ibs since I had my appendix removed. I've been on just about every medication/narcotic for the sudden fall to the ground pain. I also have to always have a bottle of imodium on me as i'm always on the toilet :(. Any one have any ideas or any luck curbing the disease and or pain? I have a 5 week old daughter and they recently told me its possible she could get it from me :(...Anyone know if this is possible or if they've passed ibs on to their kids?

Thanks..

Hi Jon,
Welcome to HealingWell!
Have you tried taking Calcium or Probiotics to help with your D? Here is a link to a thread from lnape with detailed info about calcium:

Hi there Jon,

Whilst IBS does often run in the family, you can't actually physically pass it on - it's not a hereditary 'disease'

I'm the only one in my family who has IBS and by the sounds of it your IBs was triggered by having your appendix removed - so hopefully your daughter will be lucky...

Hi jon... Welcome to the site,
While its possible that your child might get IBS, it doesn't mean that she will or that it will turn out to be a bad case of it. My mother and grandmother have IBS also and my grandmother suffers a great deal from it. My grandmother also has UC which I got also. My mother hardly has any problems with her IBS, its mostly her GERD and hiatal hernia that gives her problems. GI problems run in my family but they affect the family in different ways and not everyone has the same degree of complications. Ways to control your symptoms have come a long way for IBS sufferers as IBS is now viewed as a real problem. While there is no cure for IBS, diet and lifestyle changes can make your quality of life better. Don't worry too much right now about your daughter having problems. I know how you feel though, any time my son mentions a stomachache, I am there with my 20 questions (where does it hurt? do you have to go to the bathroom? what did you do in the bathroom? etc etc)

Hugs, Des
