It's Goldengirl43 back seeking advice . While in an appointment I was recently asked how many years by my neurologist ! After having to take a minute to count I suddenly realized I may now be dealing with long term side effects . After refreshing on the long term matter I suddenly realized my drug will probably kill me . This brings me back to those of you who have already been through this phase . I'm seeking your advice on how you dealt with your long term side effects and how you kept them from destroying your hope . It is starting to look very bleak again due to the renewed knowledge that the very thing that helps you will probably kill you . I know that when I was younger and starting the pills I was informed of the long term side effects but at the time that just seemed so far away that I didn't care . I took the pills for independence and the chance at a normal life . I purposely blocked out what was in store for me in the future with these pills because they were the only ones I could get to work for me . Now that my so called future is here I now understand the importance of the warning labels . for those of you yet to experience this phase please take the warnings seriously and note that even pills prescribed to help can harm if they are not taken right or are not right for you .There is a reason for taking labs ! Do it as often as needed and don't ignore a phone call from a lab that reports to you that you are toxic on a drug ! Report it to your doctor immediately and make sure your doctor listens to you and has your best interest in mind and if for any reason you feel they don't remember that you have the right to get new council if you so choose . Consider a second opinion if they laugh at you and say your always toxic .That ignored comment cost me years of intense side effects and possibly even unnecessary seizing as well . Please make sure all your doctors have the same information and communicate because you can easily be overdosed if communication between your doctors is poor . If possible when adding drugs please consider the importance of adding one drug at a time if possible so that you can monitor the effect it has on you . Adding multiple drugs at the same time makes it almost impossible to know if they are all really necessary and finding out which one is disagreeing with you and wich one is working for you if any . It's an unnecessary nightmare !Tell your doctors everything no matter how big or small because sometimes the small things are the most important . Remember that what you do today will have effects tomorrow . Consider having a healthy , long full life in place of a sickly life possibly shortened due to to many pills and long term side effects . It is a very expensive trade off . Please forgive me if I spoke out of bounds or spoke to boldly on an opinion that I may have had today . I am not telling you not to take your meds. . I simply want to remind you to be responsible with what you take and how you take it . The consequences of being irresponsible with your meds will cost you greatly later . Any and all advice you may have for me would be greatly appreciated .This renewed knowledge as I'll call it has and is becoming more real every day for me and is terribly depressing .
Hi there Goldengirl43, it’s fair and right in what you comment, the medications that you are given to help with a health issue, to either ease it or prevent it or stop it in its tracks, you have been given it for that reason, you simply can’t stop it on your own, or you could suffer from certain side effects, one example from me, I was taking slow release morphine tablets for four and a half years, with Lyrica of a dose 350mg a day, to ease back the pain of the side effects of radiotherapy and chemo, I am now disabled with neuropathy in both legs and an insufficiency stress fracture in my lower spine, along with stenosis and drying out of discs L3 and 4, all exacerbated by cancer treatment, I have had cancer and got rid of it.
The morphine tablets I had to stop immediately, AS ADVISED by my Doctor, due to the now increased pregabalin which has increased to 550mg per day, only 10mg away from the full amount because of the nature of my pain, I am having mild headaches and digestive problems, as the morphine has had to stop, as said by my doctor, those digestive problems will stop until the morphine is out my system.
To stop medications and go cold turkey is fool hard and dangerous, if you are worried about side effects that are going on with a medication seek out advice from your doctor, I am a pain in tail with my doctor, that’s what he or she is there for, to keep you right. Thanks Growler
