Low calorie snacks ideas

Hello everyone.

I'm trying to find some ways of losing a bit of weight and because for now im at home not working and not having any kids (meaning i dont run all the time and spend energy).

Im looking for ideas of home made snacks or desserts that are low in calories. Cooking everyday here made be a bit numb with new ideas I have to say.

I usually try to avoid wheat and I can't have massive amount of fruits or i'll clean a village (after fermentation).

I love spices, world food and im not against some funny experiments with vegs or nuts.

Many thanks I know some of the poeple here will come out with great ideas!
I'm not so much into low calorie snacks as I am fond of nutritionally dense, flavorful snacks:

roasted cauliflower is low cal and flavorful. Season as desired with whatever flavor profile you want.

roasted turkey breast on gluten-free crackers with a bit of mustard.

Dark chocolate chips. Really, you don't need much to get the full experience of intense chocolate flavor. And it's chock full of antioxidants! And a mood lifter! Yay chocolate!

For dessert you can start with plain greek yogurt and add vanilla, honey and fruit for a lovely, healthy treat.

Hard cheese is also a great thing to have for dessert.  Just a little piece of cheese, with a small amount of nuts and a bit of honey is very very satisfying.

i usually don't eat low cal anything but you can always make smoothies, kale chips, roasted chickpeas (these get so crunchy), or dehydrated fruits. also, i found these seaweed snacks at a grocery store by me. basically, it's just pieces of nori seaweed that have been roasted and dusted with sea salt. soo delicious and very low cal.

also, i love making my own sushi. the ones you buy in the store can have all those creamy sauces on them or fattening fillers. if you make your own, you can use thin slices of avocado, carrots, cucumber, and cauliflower in place of rice.

I know some arent low calories however if more nutritious they end up being less calorific like nuts, if you don't eat the whole bag!

I trie the the kale chips this week and absolutly loed it! Now my husband another story (hes meat, potatoes, 2 vegs style)

Obviously when I start to work ill be mooving enough and will be busy enough so the fod intake will rebalance. At the moment its very tempting all the time. And I happened to be near remission so everything i didnt eat for months now i can have!

Love the dark chocolate bits. I agree and will get today a 88 pourcent cocoa chocolate.
Can't help as I don't snack (*polishes halo*) I used to be a total snackmonster but since I changed my diet I just have my three square meals a day and I am never hungry. I honestly never thought that I'd be able to rid myself of the urge to rummage in the cupboard and dig out whatever crisps/nuts/biscuits I could lay my hands on (that's chips/nuts/cookies in translation :D) but now I rarely feel the urge. I do have a secret stash of high cocoa solids chocolate - minimum 85% - and will have a square now and again but I can stop at one square and then put the bar away. I think my friends believe I've been kidnapped by aliens and replaced with a strange replica.
ahah well London im a canadian living in (sigh) lovely lewisham so I know every translation! But let me point out biscuits are not like cookies as usually north american cookies are soooooo gewy and big as biscuits are a bit more dry! You know you dip it in your tea as cookies you dip it in milk awwwwwwwww!
But I love both chips and crisps

Probably your meals are so well balanced that you dont rish to snack. Usually when i feel the urge to snack I am either dehydrated, very tired, very hungry or I didn't sleep well. My husband and I a month ago tried a week of planning all the meals in advance. Tasty and healthy recipes and I managed to eat less and be more content.

Now im waiting for blood and urine test but i feel so tired every evening and have a bit of fever. So my taste for snacking is huge!
When your taste for snacking is huge then you need something filling so kick those crisps & cookies to the kerb as they only spike your sugar and leave you hungry again very quickly. I would probably opt for some cheese or a natural live yoghurt (with a scattering of blueberries or chopped strawberries). Another option is some chicken pieces or those yummy crispy bacon strips they have in M&S (opt for the unsmoked). In fact M&S is a life saver for filling snacky bits like chicken and crispy bacon - when I am travelling on business I will pack some items like this to eat on the train in order to avoid the sandwiches/paninis etc. that are the only meal options on board. Protein/fat snacks are filling and have a much higher satiety factor than sweet stuff - but sugar is an addiction that is hard to break I know. I also know I sound like the most boring so-and-so on earth and probably in food terms I am smilewinkgrin

EDIT: Not exactly low calorie suggestions I'm afraid, but better an influx of good cals than a frenzied attack on the cookie jar!

ahah well M & S are good with naughty buttery caramel waffles too!
I get your point. Im not the sugary type usually and dont munch on crisps or cookies. However im waiting for my spouse visa to come through and im so bored at home.
When im busy i don't think so much of snacking but until now i need to replace my urges with something more healthy to do a transition.

I might have forgot to mention im very farty on dairies> I treated myself at M and S yesterday with some real canadian cheddar... And im cleaning the whole place now.

But I have to admit that M&S are really good.
Boredom is a killer - and the path to the 'sin cupboard' where the dietary evils of the world lurk (and everyone has one...) I know how hard weekends are for me. During the week I am a paragon of nutritional virtue but come Saturday I am practically rifling bins for discarded pastries. Or at least the old me would have been. Even now I am much more inclined to fall off the wagon on a weekend because I am not as fully occupied as I am during my working week and that's been the undoing of all my good work on occasions (I'm following a weight loss version of my dietary regime but am just maintaining because I cheat too often). I'm lucky (or as 'lucky' as any of us are with UC...) in that dairy doesn't make me fart, in fact on a day to day level since I modified my diet to high fat, low carb I am much less 'windy', but I do give milk a very wide berth as that makes me bilious, gassy and bloated. So if you have any of that Canadian cheddar left over you can pass it to me :D
That cheddar will strip your mouth for sure! Try it its very nutty and tanguy. They sell it at M&S next to the welsh cheddar but id never tried the welsch one.
You are right about boredom. As a newly arrived I feel a bit useless with the social aspect. Obviously once I start working i'll meet lots of poeple and have more chances to do things.
When I was working in Canada last summer my schedule was regulated and I was a visual merchandiser in retail so was running all the time and lift mannequins. So I was burning lots of calories. As well I transported myself with my bicycle... try that in london!
I have enjoyed Canadian cheddar on many occasions - I love a full flavoured cheese :D I tend to buy my cheese from Waitrose and their Canadian is very fine indeed. I am in North London tournevice but work central (City, EC2). If you'd like to meet for a coffee (no muffins or brownies :D) and a chat then that would be really nice. I don't know first hand how it feels to be sat there in a strange city but I can imagine. I don't know if there is a PM function here but I can give you my contact details. London is the most amazing place on the planet (in my wholly unbiased opinion :P) but it's also one of the most dismal and isolating if you don't have a social framework.

Oh, and 'Boris Bikes'. I'll leave it there :D
ahah well you should know that boris bikes were inspired by the model from Montreal where I'm from.
I would say yes for a coffee however for the pm here im not sure.
So your work is close to my hubby! Hes on chancery lane.

You got to love london markets and diversity.
No PM function. Hmm. I will go into my profile settings and enable email so message me if you would care to.

I am in Moorgate so not so far from Chancery Lane. Love the City for its unique vibe.

I would not get on a Boris Bike if you paid me - or even if Boris Johnson paid me! Cycling in London is too fraught with risks to life and limb.

EDIT: Okay, so I've enabled email but I will probably close that down pretty soon just in case I get a collection of stalkers :P

ok Il write to you tomorrow!
Veggies dipped in hummus or salsa. Baked potato with salsa instead of butter. Banana or apple with peanut butter. Pita bread with hummus. Veggie soups are low-cal and very filling and there are tons of different types out there to try. Popcorn (if you can tolerate it).

I can't believe someone suggested bacon as a way to lose weight.
28 years old; diagnosed pancolitis March 2007

Asacol, 5 tabs, 2xday; Rowasa once a week; Canasa as needed for flares; Ortho Tri-Cyclen; Singulair; Allegra; Omnaris nasal spray; allergy shots; multivitamin.
I didn't suggest bacon as a way to lose weight per se but the OP didn't mention weight loss as an objective if you read the post. I suggested bacon as a way of eating to feel full because fats are known to aid satiety. Your suggestions sum up all the reasons why people gain weight in the first place - combining fats with carbs. Very bad metabolic combination. I detect you're a vegetarian so I don't expect you to be in favour of crispy bacon as a filling snack.
It says weight loss in the OP....if you read the post...

Eating veggies, fruits and whole grains is why people gain weight? OK, whatever you say...

And I'm a vegan, and quite healthy! yeah
