this lump in my throat is freaking me out and I'm sick of it. I had it really bad a week ago and it went away and now it is back again. Is this normal? Is this what everyone means when they say they have trouble breathing?

I also have the lump in my throat. I was so scared it was cancer as i had lost my Mother to cancer, and then noticed the lump getting worse, i couldnt swollow well, i felt like something just stuck there, it was very nauseating. The Dr. did bloodwork to check thyroids, then sent me to an ENT whom did a scope test of my throat, then i was referred to a gastroentologist and he did a scope of the throat and stomach. All test showed no cancer, thank GOD, but showed the esophogas being very burned.
So now i take two nexium a day. It comes and goes now, but i have noticed stress makes it much worse. My Dr's had tried protonix, over the counter meds, previcid, prilosec, and now the nexium.
The good news is that it is not cancer, but it is still very scary. I will return to my M.D. soon for yet another follow up, but i would recommend having your Dr. run tests for peace of mind.
I had thought GERD was just the burning in the stomach and didnt realize it can appear as a lump feeling in the throat.

stress does make it worse the acid erupts like a volcano when you're stressed. thats what happen to me I have alot anxiety and the past few months have gotten worse now I have this acid problem and have been taking over the counter for 2 months helped but it was still there so finally went to the doctors now I am on nexium seems to help.
but acid reflux can cause .cough lump in the throat constant clearing of the throat sore throat.belching gas and some other symptoms and so can nexium almost the same side effects
I suffer from constant clearing of the throat that just started a few weeks ago and now a cough which is from nexium.
I didn't know that Nexium could cause gas, Snowhite. Thanks for the info. In addition to GERD, I have a motility problem, but I don't think that is the cause of the extreme bloating I've been experiencing lately. I think it's the Nexium. I feel almost as if I've been pumped full of air and my bowels are constantly making noise, especially at night. Rumbling, etc. Anyone else experience this?
I've had this for years. The best thing to do is watch what you eat. Stay away from onions, garlic, tomatoes, and hot peppers etc.. Also try to cut way back on citrus fruits and juices. They say beer is one of the biggest acid stimulators. So avoid that if you can. I think drinking water helps. Also try to stay away from spicy foods. Bland foods are best. And try to relax.
hi know this thread is really old but have exactly the same problem at the moment and driving me mad....would be really interested to know how your gettng on since writing the original post????...had gerd for two years but only started to notice a lump in my throat for the last couple of weeks.....seeing a specialist in a few months and think i may ask for the surgery if the problems still there as the acid reflux seems relentless no matter what i do...
any advice would be gratefully recieved

I was so scared of surgery, but I caved on and had it done yesterday. My doctor did a 270 wrap that he specializes in. I can do a small burp and swallowing is no problems. My chronic cough is gone. I'm home now and I've had no major pain for 6 hours.
Chose you surgeron wisely make sure they are a bariactric surgeon (one would specializes in stomach area).

hi i had surgery to on 23rd dec had the lump for a year with gerd reflux ect all bag mashings .now 6days out feeling ok plenty gas cant eat a lot just liq and soft mashed stuff . it took a year from start to getting the opp with loads off tests in between . good luck jamie

I'm doing good. Like Mookie, I'm very gassy, but no pain now. I'm so glad I did this surgery. My coughing is gone. As long as I follow the doctor's order on what to eat I have no discomfort.
I've only had to take pain meds two times since I've been home. Last dose was on Friday morning.
My only aggrevation now is itchy glue from the wounds and an occasional painful hiccup when I eat too much.
