I just found out today that my 84 year old grandmother was diagnosed on Monday with Parkinson's, and I would like to know more about the disease, and what I can do for her. My grandmother and I are very close, and when she told me today I was in a lot of shock, and didnt want to ask her lots of questions. I am really worried, and want to know how to deal with this news. If anyone can help me out with this it would be more than greatly appreciated and will also help to ease my mind. Thanks for listening ..... -Amy
mom,good medications out there that should help.hope u have a good neurolgist.pd can be well controlled.Worrying wont help.i wish u both the best.I'm 60 an been dealing with pd since 98.it can be a handicap but it can be controlled and attitude is important lol telling this to someone who is 84 she obviously has a good attitude.Best to u both Ed
Thank you for the encouraging words, I know she is on medications three times a day, and does have a great dr. I love her so much I just cannot image my life without her....and I try not to, I will keep the faith and keep a positive attitude, thank you... -Amy
Hello mom..........sorry to hear of your g /mothers news re: Parkinsons diagnosis. Understandable that you should feel worried and concerned for her. I was only diagnosed last week with pd...........six months earlier I was diagnosed with Crohns disease......four years earlier it was a brain tumour !!!! ( never could get 'anything' right ...lol ) My neurologist told me he would expect it to be five years before I get any significant changes. So, the way I see it I have to continue to TRY (not always easy ) to live each day to be the very best........laugh, love and anything else that makes you both feel good. The pharmacist also told me it was ten years for his mother-in-law before her symptoms increased......she was just lucky enough to be able to continue virtually as per normal.
