I have done everything I can think of and every morning I run between 250 - 400!!!
rest of the day I can keep perfect control 80 - 125.
This is driving me nuts.
I add to my long acting ( Lantus) and I crash during the day. I reduce it and I run high the rest of the day.
I have tried eating a snack at bedtime and not haing anything, I doesn't matter.
I test in am usually between 7 - 8 am take an average of 25 units of Humalog ( Lantus ) and eat nothing till 11 am when my readings are back to normal.
Has anyone beaten the Dawn Phenominon?

Hi Pin Cushion. First, when do you take your Lantus? Part of your high am reading may be due to the Lantus not lasting for the entire 24 hours. I know of many people who have a problem with it. Most of them go to a split dose, taking part of their dose in the morning, and the rest in the evening. They have better morning readings that way.
Splitting the dose may not totally fix the problem. I've had type 1 diabetes for 40 years and have had a problem with the dawn phenomenon for as long as I can remember. No mattter what I tried, it didn't work. My only real solution came last November when I started the insulin pump. I've programmed the pump to deliver extra insulin starting at 4 am and continuing until 8 am and the problem has pretty much disappeared. Unfortunately, delivering insulin by injection does not do as good a job.
I know pumps are expensive, but for most people they work a whole lot better than anything else.

OK that is something I havent tried yet, spilting the dose.
I usally take it in the evening , but I think I will try splitting it.
Thx
I'll report back with the results.

Pin Cushion, are you seeing an CDE or an endo about this? Also, do you occasionally get up a few times in the night to check your bgs? What I'm wondering is if your bgs are normal during the first part of the night and then going high at about 3 or 4 am, or if are you going low during the night and then going high because of it? You may have the Symogi effect, the Dawn Phenomenon or a combination of the two. It will make a difference in how you approach dealing with the high am bgs.
