For those unfamiliar, I'll give a very brief recap. She's now 32 years of age, and has had Crohn's for about 20 years now.
Recently became pregnant, and is now 12 weeks along. So far everything fine with the pregnancy, but having pretty severe constipation issues, as she's alway had an issue with, but much worse now. Her GP got her fast tracked to her GI, and she had an appt. the other day. Didn't see her own GI, but another prominent GI from the team of the Hospital GI unit she's been at since diagnosed.
Excellent GI. They now have a newer more concise ultrasound in office. This GI gave her this and said that her stricture is really bad now. Couldn't understand why she hasn't had a resection 2 years ago. Of couse being pregnant complicates things, so she's now on a low residue diet, and Restoralax everyday until she has the baby. She's also seeing a high risk pregnancy specialist/interest regularly.
The GI told her that because her stricture starts at the Cecum and into the terminal ilium. she would need to have a Ostomy for about 6-12 months, as you can't reconnect so easily.
Anyone have in insight into this type of resection. Of course my Daughter certainly isn't wanting to have a bag, esp. with a newborn to nurture.
Sorry that I got so long, as I always seem to be apologizing for.
That's reassuring. We're pretty green on the surgery end of things. Hope this is the case.
Checking in and sending healing thoughts and prayers to your daughter, you, and your family during this time. I know that you are concerned for your child and seeking Information so you can prepare her for all possibilities.
Hopefully the low residue diet will help. My food journal helped in the beginning to identify trigger foods and then later to figure out what cause loose output or constipation... So. She might want to start that back up.

With my first pregnancy, I practically lived off SlimFast. It's a great way to get the extra calories you need, and it doesn't taste disgusting. When I get blocked up now (with my gastroparesis), I find it useful to go back to. I like to use the 12 ounces of Silk Protein Milk blended with one large (or two small) scoops of regular SlimFast chocolate powder. It tastes just like chocolate milk, but has nutrients the baby will need.
I had my first baby at 37 weeks via c-section. She was so tiny - only 4lb, 8 oz. But she is happy, healthy, and thriving (just turned 12yo last month).

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities; I take pleasure in infirmities, reproaches, necessities, persecutions, distresses, for when I am weak, then am I strong" 2 Cor

Hey Clo,
Thanks so much for your caring post. She seems to be holding her own right now, sort of steady as she goes approach. Had a 12 ultrasound, and blood work for the baby and everything is showing good. Only concern if any is that my Daughter hasn't gained any weight as of yet, but we'll see in the coming weeks.

I saw your response on your other thread, thought I'd answer here. Does she have any foods that usually trigger diarrhea? Chocolate or milk? Might be worth having a bit of that, too.

Hey Sci',
Really appreciate your suggestions, particularly the Slim fast or something like it sounds like a great idea. Ironically, I did suggest to her last night about trying foods that would normally not agree with her. She had some squash soup, and had diarrhea this morning.
Can't believe your Daughter was born at around 4lbs? So glad to hear she's doing well at 12 years old.
Checking in and hoping all is well with you and yours.
I just spoke to one of my friends with Crohns. She pregnant and has been using her food journal to help with her constipation. (Canned tomatoes, black pepper and garlic give her diarrhea so she's using those to help her "thin" her out put. She does not have an ostomy. She said she has to be careful with her water intake (increase it) and she has started drinking half apple juice or half prune juice every evening.
Just some ideas.
Sending positive thoughts and lots of prayers your way.

Thanks so much for inquiring. She seems to be holding her own. Her high risk pregnancy specialist is recommending Prednisone now, so at her next appointment with her GI they'll likely address that.
I think she's about 16 weeks along now, so we'll just keep hoping and praying for the best.
Tom.
So glad she is holding her own. She's on our support groups list for positive thoughts and/or prayers.
Sorry about the name... I have lost my ever loving mind lately.....(Too many meds messing with me.....)
Please don't forget to take care of yourself too. Little girls (especially pregnant grown up ones) need their parents support.

LOL!!!!
Thanks so much Clo'. I got a real kick out of the name. I'm sure you can imagine that I've been called much worse in my life.
So appreciate you adding her to your support group for thoughts/prayers.
Hope you're doing well.
