NEXIUM SIDE EFFECTS

Hi all
I have been on nexium now for about 7 months for gastritis , in the beginning the only side effect i had was fatigue but as time has gone on more sides have started to appear i have numbness in both legs ' joint and muscle pain all over and sometimes a jittery feeling I have had scans and nerve conduction tests by multiple doctors and specialists and all have told me i have nothing wrong with me . My stomach has improved a lot and my new doctor wants me to now reduce my dose from 40mg to 20mg for a month or two then try weening me off this horrible drug has anyone else had these type of sides from nexium or other PPI's?
I have not heard before PPI can cause neurological side effects, mostly headache, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea. Were you anxious or stressed, thinking alot about your health lately? that sounds like something that could be caused by anxiety.
thanks for your reply . nah i wasn't stressed i was thinking that the numbness may be due to vitamin b and or magnesium deficiency due to the nexium
7 months is a relatively short period to develop nutrient deficiency from Nexium. Most people had that after years of taking Nexium.
I had appalling side effects whilst on Nexium 3 years ago. I was first put on Omeprezole which caused headaches then changed to Lansoprazole, but as my stomach issues were still unresolved was switched to Nexium. The jitteriness I experienced on the first two was amplified tenfold on this. I was getting dreadful heart palpitations, depression, fatigue and thought I was going to go out of my mind. I have to say it was the scariest experience I've ever had. The doctor and consultant dismissed my concerns about the drug as "just your anxiety". However when the doctor took me off it I started to feel normal again within a couple of days.

I have a friend who experiences joint and muscle pain on all the PPIs.

For some people PPIs are a godsend and they experience no problems on them, whereas for others they come with a whole host of problems.

Maybe you could try another PPI or an H2 blocker?

All the best.
i'm currently taking 20 mg instead of 40 mg and even though it's only been four days i do feel much better already, my stomach pain which i thought was from the gastritis i think is actually from the nexium itself because since halving my dose i haven't experienced any stomach pain at all and the whole time i was on 40 mg i thought my stomach was yet to heal lol confused . I spoke with my doctor about switching but he would prefer to wean me off slowly he wants me to half my dose every two months from 40 - 20 -10 -5 to avoid the rebound smilewinkgrin
