I have had an ileostomy for 13 years. I had BCBS but this year we had to switch to United healthcare. I got my last order in July and only half the supplies then.
They will not cover m9 drops or adhesive removers or skin barrier protection wipes or sprays.
They are saying I can get 20 wafers every 90 days!!!! What. I need 20 a month.
They are also saying I have to pay out of pocket for the supplies and they will reimburse me. I have met my deductible 100% this year, so how could that be?
I'm almost out of supplies and I don't know what to do. I called the insurance company and they had no idea what an ileostomy or a wafer even was.
I left my doctor a message .
I looked to order supplies on Craigslist or Amazon and they are very expensive.
Any advice?
I know it's been a long time since you wrote this post but I saw how many people have read your post & that no one had any ideas to help.
Since my journey began over 10yrs ago & I was sent home without any ostomy supplies for 3 months it's been extremely important to me to help others who can't find supplies. I've seen homeless people using duct tape, tops of plastic soda bottles & plastic bags in desperate attempts to make do without these essential supplies. It's absolutely heartbreaking & no one should have to suffer in this way.
For those who are in need of supplies or those who have extra supplies they can donate please check this list of places who may be able to help from the United Ostomy Associations of America:
https://www.ostomy.org/donate-ostomy-supplies/
My favorite place is Friends of Ostomates Worldwide https://www.fowusa.org/
Although they can no longer send directly to the individual they will help you find the nearest center to help you or find a new center near you that's willing to help get what you need. Also they provide shipping labels to those wishing to donate for very reasonable donations.

Yes I know. I did start my message with acknowledging that but it's a problem a lot of people face & I'd hoped that even if the original poster didn't need assistance maybe someone else scrolling through the forum might. It had been read by numerous people who didn't respond which lead me to believe those readers might have seeking suggestions as well.
