I have been diagnosed with non epileptic seizures. My first one was in October and i have been having them quite regular now. Is their a treatment for these attacks. I haven't been able to go back to work or drive and that's scares me. Is anyone out there having any of these seizures. My neuro doctor reccomended me to a physc doctor and that worries me, I'm not crazy. Please help
Hi Dawn. Maybe you should get a second opinion to be on the safe side. My situation is the first Neuro said I had a Tonic Clonic that put me in the hospital. I didn't care for his bedside manner, so I saw another neuro. This second guy told me he didn't think I had any seizure, just syncope (passing out/fainting) In the mean time the first neuro ordered an AEEG 24 hours and they found seizure activity. So I was eventually put on meds for seizures. My thought at that time was how can two neuros have such opposite opinions when I told them both the same story. Well my point is to see someone else. THey may think something totally different and evaluate and test you more in depth. Good luck on your journey. TracyTracy
I am so sorry you are dealing with this. A Psychiatrist usually treats this. IF you wonder if they could be epileptic seizures you can always seek a second opinion, too. It is possible to have both true epileptic seizures and nonepileptic events.
There are many with epilepsy who get the nonepileptic label put on them when EEG fails to pick up the activity.
Non epileptic events or psuedo seizures often start after a trauma or extreme event. Hang in there. Keep looking for answers. Unfortunately it is not easy to do.
Getting a psych involved might help you figure it all out....(You are not crazy for having this. It is the minds way of protecting itself sometimes)
I was admitted to the hospital for the video eeg and they said it was non epileptic seizures. I have to go back to the doctor's office in January for my evaluation and this is so scary. i am thankfull that there is someone i can talk to about this. I have been having small bouts of depression to the point of crying but everyone tells me that this will get better. Please pray for me. Yes i am going for a second opinion.
Dawn, Things will get better for you soon. It is so hard in the beginning. I was only diagnosed in September and now I am on meds. I hope that you can figure out what is going on. NO matter what kind of seizure you are having you just need to get help for it. Whether it be a Pdoc or Neuro, as long as they help you that is what matters. I would wee a psych, if my insurance covered it in one second. Epilepsy and seizures are depressing. It is hard for alot of people without E to get it. Some do, but alot don't. Hi Dawn, this is an unfortunate label slapped on many people who may indeed be suffering from epileptic sz's. And like Kayakmom said, alot of people with epilepsy will at some point suffer a psuedo sz. I agree that a second opinion is something you should seek. Did you in fact have a sz during the VEEG? I know from personal experience that i've had auras during eeg's that weren't picked up and i've had a neuro in the past suggest that it was a psuedo sz. Does your insurance allow you to see an epileptologist? If so then you would definitely want to see one. Hope you're feeling better.
I don't know if this is the spot to post my epilepsy question but I'll try. When I was 4 years old I had my first seizure. and until I was I think 13 I was on medication and had some seizres during those years. My question is i am 22 now and have severe problems with my mestrual cycle and weight problems. Would the medications I was on still be effecting me even though I've been off them since I was 13?
Michsez, I am sorry you are having trouble now. I would not think the medications would be affecting menstruation unless it was a med that caused the polycystic ovary disease or something?
have you talked to your GYN doctor about the medications that you used? Have you talked to a neuro to see what affect it might have had?

I am late in this,but thought I would add my 13 year old is Derrick and he has both kinds of seizures. We have figured out the difference, and just getting some ways to control the non epileptic ones has helped him immensely.
HE sees a psychiatrist for meds, and a psychologist to have someone to talk too. He also suffers anxiety and hallucinations at times thanks to the meds.
Hi dawn, i have been haveing seizure,s for the pass yr.i know you are scare.i know i was when i was told that i was haveing seizure,s i did,t belive anyone i told everyone that they were crazy,even my dr.till today i don,t know when i am haveing a seizure.the only way i know is if someone tell,s me or if i am by myself the only way i think i had one is if i,m on the floor or if i get hurt so yes i understand.so make sure you get a good dr,and get on the right med,s.take care and good luck with the right dr, you will be fine,
