Just wondering, I have an Ileostomy.The piece of Ileo that sticks out seems to be getting smaller every couple of weeks. When I had the oppo is June it was about 35mm's,maybe due to the swelling. Now it's about 20mm. Is this the Norm ?
My last bunch of appliances were cut @ 22mm,I didn't seem to get that snug fit. I'm now cutting them myself along that 20mm line. They now fit me like a glove & ( I don't want to ginx myself ) I haven't had a blow out in almost 3 weeks. I also wear a support belt which I believe helps & change them after 1 shower.
It seems to be working for me. ( Please,I hope that I didn't ginx myself )
I think it is supposed to shrink, Mine is still around 35 well more like 32 but there is this freak part of it I have to cut bigger for. Im not sure what the "normal" size would be. BUt as long as it is pinkish or redish and bright, it should be o.k. YOu may wanna call your ostomy nurse.
it does definitely shrink over time, not to worry! But, be careful, if it gets so small that you can't wear an appliance without leaks, or shrinks into your body you need to call your doc. here is the case where small isn't so bad! The smaller the stoma, the smaller the appliance you can wear too (or the flange at least) :) Happiness is a journey not a destination - Souza
my stoma is getting bigger! it started out small and now it is prolapsing (coming forward!!!) its really scary because its getting long enough (about 2 inches long) that its starting to bend to one side when i lay on it and im scared it will come out more! i went to my doctor and he said that it was bad and he hopes it doesnt come out more-thats all he did! aghhh!
hi there i am new to this but i am in desperate need of advice! My stoma seems to be shrinking and its taken on a cauliflower like appearance my gp does not know what it is neither does my surgeon! i have had urostomy for about six years and these last six months i have been in and out of hospital I receive anti biotics it clears up then a week later its bad again I have pain and bleeding as well I have tried chaaging bags etc but to no avail!Please if anyone can help would appreciate advice!
