Hi Patoola....I just a coupon in the mail for Prilosec. About $4.00 off. I used to get $10.00 coupons for prescription Nexium. My doctor gave me some Protoxin for now. I'll check the Prilosec at Wally World. Probably have to double dose it if it's over the counter. If you check out some health sites, sometimes pop-ins come along. I didn't sign for any coupon because I didn't want the spam coming in with it. Didn't work. They always find me.
I've tried nexium, prilosec, prevacid, etc., etc. antacid tablets, you name it. None work for me. I've had all the endoscopy and acid tests. One doctor recommended the procedure where they shrink the esophagus. Has anyone tried the wedge pillows in combination with Betaine HCL tablets? I'm at my wit's end as I only get about three hours sleep and wake up withy chest pain, punding heart.
I got a coupon too! Fortunately, I have a pretty good supply for now so not needed. I saw the OTC stuff at Walmart, $7.95 for 14. So even needing to double up on it, price for a month is only around $32.00 if my math is correct! Ha Course, gotta add tax. Mom paid around $65 bucks for 15 pills not long ago, so savings is darn good. Ah, reminds me, I will give her the coupon! Will sure help her out. :)
I have taken Protonix before and seems like it was working pretty good for me, but it is real expensive too. Back then I had health insurance and my co pay for it was $40.00 for a month supply! Boy, they get ya comin and going!
Durn, Chuck, sorry nothing is working for your GERD. Are they sure it is GERD and not a heart problem? I know it is hard to tell sometimes if its the heart or the GERD. Just a thought, maybe check it out with your doc if you haven't already. I've never tried that wedge pillow etc., but when I'm out of medicine I know the only way I can sleep is to be propped up in a nearly sitting position. Not too comfy either. :( God Bless all, Pat
Hey Patoola....yeah, great news for your Mom. I haven't had to buy the Protonix. Doc supplied me. I think my hernia is a bigger problem. Diet is important when you have this and eventually it'll flair. If I was dealing with the GERD thing...I could handle that. I know your right about the chest pain. It really raises that anxiety level which makes everything even worse. The last time I got a month's supply of Prevacid, it was $128.00 or something like that. At Wally World. Almost decided to go to Maalox. Almost $3.00 a pill. Something is really wrong when we are paying this kind of cost. I just heard the stats on the news today (I'm one of them) one in seven Americans don't have insurance. Oh well, it's my time in history and that's the way it is.
Sorry, Chuck.....I don't know that med?? What is it Pat?...I don't use wedges, but I use goose down pillows to prop me anyway I can get comfortable. What else are you taking before you go to sleep? I have fibromylagia so this is just another "pain" to figure out. I've slept in the corner of a very comfortable couch many nights. I've eaten ice cream for heartburn. I've heard of a "weak esophagus". That has a "flutter" to it and will frighten you because it seems like a panic attack. Not fun. A family member has it, but is controlling it with diet now. No meds last time I talked with them. I'm with Pat...did you have a good physcial?? Do you have high BP? Heart pounding and chest pain....how about "sweats"? Too many options. Do you have a hiatnel herina??
Know it's scary, hope you find some relief from it soon. Push your doctor a little more.
Hey Chuck.......did you ever get relief from your GERD. It sounds very unpleasant and perhaps some type of surgery would be in order. Just wondering!!!!
Hey Patoola...how's it going in your world. Rainy here, but I don't mind it. Cranky knees, but no big deal. Just feeling laazzzy!! Slepp walking, but can't go to sleep until 3/4 a.m. This has to stop. I have my body going in reverse!!! Hoping your feeling well/close to well/or better then well. I thought maybe multiple choice would work in these types of posts. We could have a little scale of one to ten on the side of the post.
I think Sam's Club has Prilosec OTC, a month's supply for around $23...a pretty big box. Tell me more about EndoCinch. I also just heard about Enteryx, a permanent, implantable device to treat symptoms of acid reflux or GERD. Once injected the polymer quickly forms a small mass that appears to reinforce the barrier, potentially allowing patients with chronic GERD to avoid daily meds. Eliminated need for meds in 67% in a 12 month study; reduced need for meds in 9% (? correct #?), and improved GERD symptons in 72%. Anyone else have problems with yeast infections after treatments for gerd or slow stomach function? Yuck
Just wanted to let you know that there are coupons currently available for all of the PPI's from the manufacturers. All of the ones that I have in my office deduct (usually $30) from the co-pay.
I think you should be able to download the coupon from the websites of the manufacturers -- but I'm not exactly sure. If you really need them, let me know.
Doc, Are you on line? Did you have a chance to see my reply to your question? By the way, are you in a position conduct some studies with GERD patients / endoscopy? Also, I believe you mentioned you are in the LA area. So am I.
