Pain levels and diabetic numbers

One of the main issues I've been having lately is super high glucose numbers. I eat the same thing nearly every day so that if definitely not the problem.I have arthritis (64 years), lupus (15 yrs), fibormyalgia (20 yrs) and diabetic (10 years), Lately I've been doing a LOT of weed eating at 3 different cemeteries (one is 2,000 headstones) and the other 2 are small unused ones. Between that, the shoveling over the winter and the crazy weather fronts rolling through here in Upstate NY, the pain levels are in the holy moly range. Sometimes it feels like the bones are on fire and going to disintegrate. I've hurt for a long time but this is getting unbearable. I am allowed 3 oxycodone a day along with my 3 prescription muscle relaxers, even with Aleeve backup it 's horrible. Does anyone know of any herbal help?? I'm allergic to most medicine...ended up with Lupus from the arthritis meds and fibro from a flu shot. Thanks for the help...Nana
Hi Nana,

I am so sorry about all of your pain. I don't know if I can help you or not but I will share with you something that I do. I have fibromyalgia also and some arthritis. I also am a diabetic too. I have had fibro since 2001. Though it doesn't seem as bad as it first was unless I have just gotten used to it.

But I am from Michigan and marijuana is legal. I make a salve for pain that helps me a lot. I imagine it is CBD that is helping with the pain. It doesn't take much but you do have to reapply from time to time. I am not selling it, I don't want you to think that this post is spam because it isn't. I just want you to know what works for me at this time. It is very easy to make with coconut oil. I am not even sure if this post is allowed and I am a moderator. You could even get some CBD gummies and try. I hope that you find what works for you. And I hope it is okay to post this. It is legal here so I imagine it is okay.

I see you posted a couple of months ago. I hope you come back and check on it. Best wishes...

Hugs, Karen...

I've tried a CBD cream but it didn't do too much. Blue Emu and Voltarin help but I get sinus infections from the smell. I've been using Topricin for years, NO smell, non greasy and works. The bad part is the pain is in most of the joints so I need a flea dip. I use EVOLVE brand CBD oil to control familial tremors and it makes the oxycodne work faster...I've been on 10 mg of the HCI's for about 25 years. One thing I did find out accidentally is the CBD oil can give you a "hot" pee test at the doctor's office. I was in severe pain for a bit and used more than usual and got tested...told if I ever had another one I'd lose my pain medication. Have to go without it for a while before the doctor's "just in case".

I've been walking the local Renn Faire on weekends and weed eating a 2,000 headstone cemetery. On top of push mowing an acre (still under water out back). The shoveling here in Upstate NY kicked my butt this winter, seriously brutal!! At 71 I try to stay active but sitting at night is kind of a killer, everything stiffens up.

Thanks for responding. Any help is appreciated.
I am sorry it has been so difficult for you. I am 66 so I Know how it feels. I have slowed down immensely since I had gall bladder surgery in 2023. It effected my pancreas and my liver. Also my bile duct. I was in the hospital most of 2022. I lost my stamina to do things. I used to walk all the time and barely do anymore. My husband is 83 and does circles around me. I have been off of my pain meds for years but I think I need to go back on.

I hope you find help for your pain. I didn't think about it showing up at the doctor. I am sorry that happened.

TAke care Nana. Have a good day...

I've found Berberine for the glucose levels...it's an herbal version of metformin! The CBD oil helps some and I do magnesium glycinate instead of magnesium oxide as it's better absorbed. Back it up with L theanine as they work together. Have you tried beta alanine? I'd be lost without it. I just finished the cemetery in record time...6 days for 2,000 headstones. One really bad trigger is weed eating on the hills, tears up the hips. I use a Copper Fit back brace, Topricin (external pain cream..NO smell, non greasy and works), along with a weed eater sling to take 75% of the weight off of the arms and back. Tomorrow it's back to push mowing an acre of land as it's still so wet out back I can't get it done without the mower sinking. What gets me is it hurts as much if I sit around as when I bust my hump on projects.

Do you find stress levels elevate your numbers? I try to just put on my headphones and listen to music instead of letting things eat at me so much. I was getting horrible chest pains and got kind of scared as my Mom died of a heart attack in her sleep. Found out my heart is upside down on the left side so when I got stressed it would beat differently causing the pain. Kinda always knew I was backwards smile
I just want to say Nana Monster, Keep on moving. I Mentioned before I lost a lot of my stamina while in a hospital bed. I just can't do what I used to do. It sounds like you are pushing through the pain and in my mind, you are doing well.

I truly know stress elevates my blood sugar.

Best wishes...

Hi getting by , nice to see your still here. I have dropped in to make an update on a few health issues.

My DH had diabetes , kidney failure and serious PHN issues just to name a few . He had suffered amputations and dementia the last few years. This was caused by Agent Orange exposure while he was serving as a pilot in the Vietnam conflict 1968-76. We both had previous experience with rehab and VA care facilities and we promised each other to take care of each other if reasonable while remaining at home. He passed at home last March and fought the good fight, by this time was ready to move on. I will miss him as part of my heart went along with him on this new journey , until we met again.

Many hopeful memories and conversations over the years and I have always been impressed by your gardening and art abilities. Sending healing blessings your way. Even at 78 years of age I’m still pushing it to garden , mow and trim several acres in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Just keep it movin maybe slower but movin is the life theme of the day.
Hope to hear from you soon, how ya doin?

Hey Chotti,

So nice to see you on.. I haven't been posting much as the forum is kind of at a standstill. I love hearing from you. I am sorry about your husband. It must have been so difficult to lose him. Mine is 83 now. But still runs circles around me. We are slow going in the morning but we have both been able to face the days. It sure has been hot.

We have a garden this year. I got a canner and hope to do beans today or tomorrow. I have them snapped and ready to go.

I haven't been painting. My art just sets there waiting. I just haven't been in the mood. It will come back though I just know it.

I am so happy you wrote. I do have diabetes now too. Try to keep it under control. I need to walk more than I am and exercise but I spent a year in and out of the hospital because of gallbladder and pancreas. I lost a lot of my stamina. But trying to regain.

I am so excited to hear from you. I want to giggle.

Talk again soon I hope.

Karen,
Thank you so much your kind and thoughtful words of support . I am so happy to hear from you, and saddened to hear of your recent health struggles.

I’m in awe of your strength through all of your health struggles over the years. But I know your made of strong stuff. During the months of treatments and hospital stays means months of flowers I owe you. Just remember no matter what I’ll be here and hold your hand the whole way, just as you served many on this forum over many years.

I hope you do regain your strength, confidence and art skills soon. Sending positive energy for better days and your back to your amazing self soon!

You meant a lot to many members over the many years that you have supported this site. I read your kind and gentle words of support to members whom you meant the world . YOU ….Always …always gave others the strength to fight for another day. I hope that you will not feel under the weather for long periods . You are at such a young age coping with so much trauma. As soon as you feel better you’ll get back to taking on the world again. Maybe a bit slower , wiser and accomplished as usual in every thing you do.

I am so happy to hear your DH is there to support you . Also if any friends or children who were helpful to you, as some can be our best friends, life savors and angles. My oldest son is always helpful in every way. I feel so very, very blessed to have him and my DL.

As aging can take us a longer time to heal , body & mind . It’s ok to take all the down time you need. You’re the Queen of positivity and that’s what matters now. Remember you are strong, and you are loved and you can jump this latest hurdle too.

The things you can do for relaxation , if gardening, canning or art helps put your life in a better frame of mind , then more power to ya. Remembering “Mindfulness” , as we move forward through life also can keep us safe. Especially with your talented artwork , you’ve got my attention for as long as it takes. Maybe more of your art pictures can be shared soon.

There may be a long road ahead of you, but you don’t need to walk it alone. I’ll be here every step of the way as you were with so many on this site for many, many years.

Sending healing blessings your way.
Gentle hugs,Chotti

Hey Chotti my dear,

Thanks for the many kind words. You are so sweet. As I recall, you were always like a ray of sunshine when you posted. People like you make moderating easy. Just having conversation with you is therapeutic. Thanks for the support.

You have also been through more than you should have. And you still stand strong. Losing our loved ones is the worst. To keep going on is hard but you have done it. You are doing it everyday.

I am watching a hummingbird at the feeder by the window. Such a gift to be able to witness.

As of today I have canned 15 quarts of green beans. I think that will be all of the beans I will can. It is a lot for us and will easily get us through the winter. There are a lot of beans in a quart jar. lol...

I hope you know how much you are appreciated by me. You are very kind and compassionate...

I hope you are having a wonderful day. My day has been productive to say the least. The garden is thriving. I am one happy camper...

Take care and I hope to chat more. We can always go over to depression forum or email... I have diabetes too so I come here from time to time.

Hugs, Karen...
