pdoc appointment waiting time

A few weeks ago I was getting really stressed out, and decided to make a pdoc appointment to talk about it.  Well unfortunately the doctor had a 4 week wait to get in(there is a shortage of pdoc's in the area).  My appointment is finally coming up in a few days.  The thing is that I feel much better now.  The source of my stress is no longer present, and I feel fine.

So, I am wondering if I should even see the pdoc after all.  I think maybe I should because the way I was stressed out seemed unhealthy.  I almost thought I was heading toward a full blown depression but luckily I pulled out of it.  I also had really negative thoughts that came into my head during that time.  Maybe it would be worth just discussing how I deal with stress.

Does anyone else have a problem with having to wait too long to see your doctor?  If this was for a cold it would be unheard of to wait for 4 weeks.  Usually I can get in sooner to see my doctor, I geuss he was just backed up this time.

in my area we also have a major shortage for pdocs, and mine just happens to be the most well-known in the city.  for at least the past 3 years, i only see him once every 2 months, which is not enough...i now have a regular doctor helping me, but it's hard b/c as my doc says the pdocs are the experts in what we're going through...just think of all of the extra training/education they have.

i think that you should definitely still go to your pdoc.  from my situation, every single appt i go to i have to think back to what's been going on and sometimes when i feel fine it feels like there's no point in going, but there definitely is.  it will be good to discuss what you were feeling.  i'm not sure if this is a relapse for you or if you have cycling or what, but it's important to keep the appt and talk about it for sure.

it's definitely frustrating to say the least when trying to get treatment (immediate) for our illness.  and there's nothing any of us can really do about it, except go to the hospital and that's usually really traumatic for a lot of us i think.

anyway, hope i helped a little, take care of yourself, hope the stress stays away and you feel stable.

hugs and support all around

There is no shortage of pdoc's around my area but you still have to wait forever. I tried to find a new one today and all of them said June was their first available appointment.
why is it that you need to see the doctor that often? even at my worst, and going through a lot of med changes, I would probably see a psychiatrist every 3 to 6 months. If you need a med change you should be able to call them (and they can usually fit you in for an 'emergency' appt. if they decide its the sortof things you need to see them for). Routine monitoring of mental state and symtoms a therapist or psychologist is really what you should be seeing. Weekly or every-other week appt. should be easy to get.
