I am in such a tough situation right now with the c. diff and the lupus both being a problem. I am unsure what to do financially. When I look up information on unemployment, it states that you must be able to return to work /be actively looking for work. Disability is not a sure thing because c. diff isnt supposed to be a life long thing (even though it feels as if it is).
What in the world am I supposed to do? I cannot get workmens comp because hospitals/nursing homes are not responsible for someone acquiring c. diff. Although if they were held responsible there would be a whole lot less people infected because it is basically due to inadequate training and hygiene.
I am so dang tired of this. I was thinking yesterday that I might just have to get a job and force myself to go to work... and then I spent over an hour on the toilet this morning. That would be nice as a new employee.
Do any of you know, can you collect unemployment if you are sick?
Darlene, I'm not sure if you can collect unemployment. I was wondering if you would qualify for SSI; I think it is more of a short term help. Anyway, it's worth a shot. Have you contacted any churches in your area that may be able to help you in the interim? I hope things get better for you. Sorry you are having it rough! Hang in there and God Bless Judy
Hi Darlene, Yes you can. I imagine there are different situations but I can tell you what is going on with a friend of mine. She was injured at work. Even though they are paying for the doctor visits they are refusing to pay her any workman's comp. So unemployment has her go out and put in 2 appilications a week and enter it in the computer every sunday. She gets an unemployment check the following wenesday. It's only a short term thing though. I think the unemployment office figured out how how much she worked and divided it between weeks and came up with a dollar amount. She's only going to be able to get in for about 8 months. But it's soomthing until she figures out what to do next. If you havn't been DX'd with a a problem why you can't work I would think they would consider you employable.

Darlene, I can't help much with your question, but I really hope you can get some help, because it doesn't sound like you are able to work at all. The other thing you can check into with your employer is short term or long term disability through work - most places have it. It would probably also be a good idea to file for SSI and see what happens. You might not get it for the c-diff, but you might be able to get it for your lupus.
It still sounds like your C-diff is still really bad. I really hope you can get some help with finances and that your c-diff will clear up. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. ((((Hugs))))
Darlene, I don't know the answer to your questions, but I certainly empathize with what you're having to deal with. I hope some other folks here have been able to give you some good advice and that you find a solution. I would sure give it a try for SSI. It is a lengthy proceedure but with no income, it is worth a try. Good luck!
