Question on what the first signs of neuropathy are

I have been a type 1 for about 5 years now, and I am starting to have light cramps and mild tingling on both my feet and wondering if this could be the start of neuropathy.
Can someone who remembers the first signs of neuropathy please post.
Am a little concerned and my Reg doctor is Army reserve and got called to Irac and wont return for another 6 months. So looking for advice.
thx

Hi, I don,t mean to alarm you, but that is definitely the start of neuropathy, I have light tingling and some loss of sensation in my feet also.
Hi, My left big toe hurt for two years before the bottoms of my feet started burning.
Hi Pin Cushion, I've had type 1 for 23 years. I used to get really bad tingling and numbness in my feet and was worried it was neuropathy. So i went to see my doctor and he told me to buy some new good shoes. I did it and now only get tingling feet if i cut off the circulation by crossing my legs for too long. I would definitely try some good shoes or insoles and not worry too much about it until you see your doctor. Stressing about it will only make things worse!
Johnny said it all. Consistant exercise and keeping bs levels down is the way to fight it or at least stop it in its tracks. Pin, are you doing your daily walk/swim/stairclimbing? (Just picking on you here, I know we all get super busy and 'forget' to exercise) tongue Judging by how long I've had neuropathy, I've had diabetes for over 25 years... only diagnosed 10 yrs ago... Some of the damage is already done.

I am 34 have been treating neuropathy for a yr now. I take 600mg 5x's a day of Gabapentin (Neurotin) I fall due to my legs buckling, I have severe cramps, tingling, sharp pains. Went in for a check up and they put me on Cymbalta to help with pain. Has anyone had any luck with that?
I have neuropathic pain such that the pain specialist cannot eliminate it.

The tingling COULD be a sign. The cramps - I don't believe so but it could be for you.

EDIT: What Tingly said brings back memories. Bottoms of feet.

Once my 'tingling' started in one foot, it went fairly quickly to the next foot and up both legs to the knees.

Hang in there. They are discovering new treatments for different ailments on a daily basis. While I'd settle for something that arrested things where they are, I'm still praying for a cure. We'd probably all volunteer to help find a cure if it would help.
