I didn't realize how pitiful I sounded til I read it tonight!
Anyway, I do miss my JoAnnie, but usually remember her with a light heart and laughter, which is how she would want it to be.
For instance, at our last October Union meeting, the next date we could agree on happened to be JoAnnie's birthday. I mentioned it, and someone else said, "Oh, we should have a party!" So the Union Rep said, "Sure, bring cake! We'll just make it a party!" I looked at her and said, "You do realize that JoAnn is dead, don't you?" The look on her face, ladies...I had no idea a person's jaw could drop so far. We were all cracking up. JoAnnie would have been laughing right along with us, I know. (And by the way, we did just that!)
And then there was the first day at my new office in Siberia...an office JoAnn would have shared with me...I pulled into the parking lot and right in the middle of the lot sat a big old painted turtle, checking out a "W'04" bumper sticker on our republican congressman's car. (We share the same building...wouldn't THAT send JoAnn off the deep end!) We spent about an hour taking pictures of that silly turtle, and you know, he never once pulled his head in. Me thinks he'd had a marguarita or two!
So thanks for the many sweet replies I got. I guess Benito's sadness came through in my post. But just wanted you to know that, for the most part, LIFE IS SO GOOD!!!
Tomorrow is my BIG TEN anniversary and I remember so well the days i didn't think i had a snowball's chance of making 5, but here I am, and I don't have any plans of leaving this world anytime soon!
love and hugs to all...

Congrats on the big 1-0, and wishing you 5-0 more!

Nothing pathetic about your post, dear Bev. I have to believe that grief lessens over time, but I know in my case, it's always lurking around. I think that we begin to really heal when we wake up in the morning, and the first thoughts are NOT about the fact that someone we love has died. That has been my experience, anyway.
And big congrats on the 10 years!! I celebrate my yearly diagnosis anniversary with more fanfare than my birthday.
Love, Glenda

Sometimes it is a slender thread, Sometimes a strong,
stout rope; She clings to one end, I the other;
She calls it friendship; I call it hope....
I didn't think you sounded pathetic, either, just sad at loosing a good friend. We can all certainly relate to that. JoAnnie would have enjoyed the birthday party and I am sure she is up there telling everyone many funny stories, as only she can. LOL. Hugs, MK

Congrats on 10 Bev. Here's to 20 + more. JoAnnie would have loved the Birthday party. You do miss your dear close friend. My best friend from high school died of cancer over 30 years ago and I still miss her on special occasions - like her birthday and mine. Those were two of our favorite times.
Hang in there, sweetie.
Love, Kitty
