My husband and I are at the end of our rope on finding prescription osteoarthritis medication that controls his pain without hurting his stomach. Zipsor works but is outrageously expensive and we can't afford it. Our insurance does not cover zipsor.
We've tried several others and they all irritate his stomach.
His osteoarthritis is severe and he has to have some sort of relief to function. Help!
Mingochick is your husband a candidate for a knee replacement, that may be something to consider. I can't use any type of NSAID because of crohns disease. I do however use Voltaren gel that helps with arthritis pain, it's topical & should not bother his stomach. I first started using it when it was by prescription only & now it's available OTC. You have to use it consistently for it to work. Has he tried Tylenol Arthritis that is 650mg, it's much better than the regular Tylenol. At bedtime I sometimes use the Salon Pas with lidocaine, any relief is better than none.

I am new here and hope we can learn from each other about living with OA. I've been recently diagnosed. Back to topic, pain management. I am not one for adding another script med to the list. I've been looking at herbal medicines, and here is one I've found, strangely, does work, at least for me. Maybe you can give it a try too? ok, I take a coffee filter, fill with 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp turmeric, and 1/2 tsp black pepper. I wrap it all up in the coffee filter, and let it steep with my Red Rose tea, for a few mins. I find it helps 'soothe' my pain, and I get to sleep. If you try it, let me know!

This is interesting. Does it matter what kind of tea you might use the herbs/spices with?
