Scary symptoms

I'm a 33 year old who workouts and does long runs. I'm diagnosed with Anxiety, IBS, major depression, ocd and hypochondria.

due to stress Last month I had an outbreak of shingles on my right shoulder blade.

Over the weeks i developed swallowing issues which my dr. chalked up to my anxiety. The shingles cleared out.

I've been feeling faint and having ache here and there. The swallowing issues are there, but not as bothersome. Though, I've noticed some small reddish spots that itch on my left forearm and lowley one in the right. I know it doesn't look like petieche since my pa has suffered from that due to an injury in his leg.

It could be a stress rash since what I've gone through.

Also, I stopped taking my anti depressant (trintellix) while I took my antiviral, and when I finished with the treatment and went back with my anti depressant. I don't know if it's my anti depressant causing this.

Though, just now I made the mistake of going to Dr. Google. Now I fear that I might have leukemia or lymphoma.

I already did the yearly bloodwork last Thursday.

I don't see her in a month unless something showed up in my blood work.

Like I posted on top, I'm somewhat scared.

Hi Manny and welcome!

I am sorry to hear about the issues and worries you are currently having...I know how it is to fear the worst in regards to one's health.

Anxiety can cause a wide variety of physical symptoms including skin issues. The chance of this being something benign are so likely...but of course, the anxiety causes us to focus on the 'what if' thinking of all the scary things...

Have you worked specifically to manage health anxiety issues? If not, this would be helpful in getting you through this time.

In our Resources at the top of the main forum page here you'll find our Resources. There is great material to be found there to add to your toolbox...but especially pay attention to the Health Anxiety self help and book recommendations. Going through the links should help keep the catastrophic thinking in check in regards to your symptoms.

Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful. We understand, care and support is key!

Thanks, Scaredy Cat

I thought I had managed my health anxiety with the medication though it seems it failed me since I came down with shingles due to stress.

Then, the flood of symptoms came back crashing on me. Once, I restarted the medication i thought I'd be better. Sadly, it seems my medication has done what it could since it's stopped working. from what I'm experiencing I'm going through withdrawal symptoms. The only solace it's that I was taking the lowest does (5mg) so I hope I'm out of the woods soon.
M.,

How long has it been since you've restarted your RX? From what I can tell, you did not do an increase and are still on the 5 mgs? You may just need an increase, and you have a lot of room to go up, since 5 mgs is a very low dose. (barely therapeutic for many people.

Asking your prescribing doctor for guidance at your follow up appointment would be a wise move, to find out how you shoud proceed...

...and like I said, take advantage of your Resources and work those coping skills! It will get bettter. smile

Talk soon,

Going off trintellix then going back on might have caused some problems. I was told not to just go off or even miss a pill but I don't actually know why.

I called my primary regarding my blood work and everything came out normal.

Seems my shingles was indeed triggered by constant stress.

With stopping cold turkey. I feared it would interact with my antiviral since with every medication has some interaction with trintellix. My doc would always tell me to take an alternative. Knowing that I couldn't communicate with him, I decided to go off cold turkey for seven days.

Though, when I went back on it the withdrawal symptoms had already started. I restarted on June 26 though the symptoms of constant anxiety, lightheadedness, nausea, sweet cravings, crying spells, and muscle tension were bad that I stopped on July 14. On July 15 the lightheadedness and nausea has started to go away. I'm just going to let the medication flush from my system before getting back on it and increasing it to 10mg.

The reason I was in 5mg since the 10mg was causing chest pains and constipation.

Okay, I see...thanks for the clarification!

I hope that the new restart is successful for you! Until then, really double up on your coping skills...and know that we are cheering you on!

Just wanted to give an update.

Never went back to taking the medication, and I'm suffering through withdrawal. However, my mind has cleared up, though to keep it short i fired my psychiatrist.

Here's the timeline of what occurred.

From April to May 2018 both my mother and therapist noticed a change in my mood and behavior. They noticed that I was a bit aggressive towards anyone who would question me. Over the last three years I became really close with my 91 year old grandmother. Though, during this time, I became quiet and shy towards her which my mother found rather odd. Then, I became aggressive towards my mother, which I never did in my life. Later, I would have chest pains, heart palpitations, fatigue, indigestion (heart burn), headaches, night panic attacks, night jolts, insomnia. These symptoms closely match with what I've read regarding reaching the 'tolerance'/poop out phase of SSRI's.

My therapist recommended to raise the mg on my medication since it seemed it stop working. I was going to mention it to my psychiatrist though, I wasn't going to see him until late June.

Then, add family problems, looking for work and being rejected, selling some articles to pay my school loans, the state of politics in the US, and finally to top it off, being bitten by a bee that these symptoms overwhelmed my immune system which triggered my shingles outbreak in early June.

Knowing that Trintellix interacts with certain medications, I stopped taking the medication so I could take the antivirals.

After I finished taking the seven day antivirals (June 26) I restarted taking my antidepressant, though it was too late. I had exited the tolerance phase and entered discontinuation phase of the medication. I finally stopped taking the medication on July 14.

Though, what shocks me is that my therapist was able to recognize I had entered the 'tolerance phase' and would have raised the mg's on my medication if he was able to; while my psychiatrist didn't to the extreme he just dismissed me during my most anxious moments when I had entered my discontinuation phase.

still suffer from lightheadedness though drinking orange juice that has calcium, vitamin d, and magnesium have helped with that symptom.

I developed new symptoms in mid August. severe headaches that shift right and left, top and back, eye pressure, eye disturbances(eye floaters, blurred vision), nausea, cognitive issues (forgetful and headaches when thinking of talking or laughing, muscle tension on my neck and head.

I'm freaking out that I might have a brain tumor now. Though, a few months back I thought I had lymphoma/leukemia. So, I know it's withdrawals.

Then, in a email exchange, I asked my psychiatrist about long term consequences of coming off Trintellix, he wouldn't answer the question, then blamed my symptoms to the antivirals. I'm like how could this be since I stopped taking the antiviral on June and didn't take meds, plus it's now September.

I was flabbergasted at his ineptitude. I notified my primary and my therapist regarding his treatment towards me and both were shocked at his bad bedside manners. Good thing my primary did a complete blood panel which came out pristine in her opinion. the psychiatrist is out of the picture, and now I have to deal with these symptoms by myself.

Though, these severe headaches and cognitive issues freak me out. I hope some reassurance from those who've gone through this process can give some wisdom on how to stay strong through this scary time.

Hi Manny,

Welcome back and thanks for the update! I am sorry to hear all that you have been through, and about the current struggles that are persisting for you.

I am glad that you were able to make a good decision for yourself if deciding that your P-doc was not a good fit. It sounds like since your GP and therapist agree...that it was the right move. Can of them possibly make a recommendation for another psych? Or are you in the frame of mind to not go that route again?

If this is the case, then working your therapy and self help skills will be of most importance and priority! Can you ask your therapist for more exercises to overcome the health anxiety challenges? Have you worked specifically on these issues before?

We have some great self help for HA in our Resources. Be sure to check out the links and book recommendations available there. (let me know if you need direct links)

Keep working towards your goals, and let us know how we can encourage you along the way. We understand, care and support is key!
