I can relate to the messing up. What mg of oxycodone are you on? They are stronger than Lorcet for sure.
Susie
Curley,Sorry you ae having a tough time. Let me try to answer your question.
Oxycodone is an agonist opioid. Opioid agonists are some of the most effective pain relievers available. Unlike other analgesics, opioid agonists have an increasing analgesic effect with increased doses. Meaning that the more you take, the better you feel. It gives you an Euphoric effect.(that "high" feeling.) It is also very addictive and abused. The longer you use it, the more you have to increase yourdosage.
Lorcet= Hydrocodone (related to codiene)+ acetaminophen. It is possible to become physically dependent to this also.
Oxycodone is by far the strongest of the two , and in my opinion, the most addictive.
You did not say which drug you are taking, if any. My advice to you would be..Just be very careful with both of them. Read all the warnings that come with the meds, including possible drug interactions. Avoid alcohol with both drugs.Always let your pharmacist know all medications that you are taking. He/she can advise of any meds that may be contraindicated with these drugs.
Hope this has helped you. I also hope you are feeling better today.

Flopie Hi and I want to thank bothe you for answer my question's.It never fails I can all way count on bothe of you.I thank god every day.
Now I'am taking Endocet 10-325 and it is working better Iwas on Lorcets10-60 and it was to the point that they just wasn't working.I have a appointment with the pain clinic this comeing month and I guess he was just trying to keep me out of pain as much as possible.I do trust he judgment (he has been the family doctor for along time)And I feel that I can trust him.
I seen him friday my poor dad had to drive me over there because I'am so swollen that it hurt's to push the peddle. He took one look at me and said my god.I did not ask for any other kind of pain meds he ask me if I was in sever pain and I said yes so he gave me a script for this pain meds that I have never been on.But it is helping. He gave me a sript for 120 of them so they will last a good bite.
So how are you both doing?SUsie how are your knees doing?I hope that you are getting some relive bless your heart you have had such a hard time with them.Oh I ment to ask how it is going with the pain pump?I hope you are doing well.Let me know.
Flopsie thank you so much for the info on these meds.My pCP did say that my lorcets was not doing what it should because I hasve been on them for over a year.So how are you doing.I hope that you are doing well.

My knees are the same, its just awful how bad they hurt and stay swollen. Now that he rest of my pain is at bay thanks to my pump, I can really tell just how bad my knees are. I am still walking with a cane, I would not dare to be w.o it.
The pump is just awesome. It has really helped me. We had to increase the doseage a few weeks ago, but since doing that from my knees to my toes are swollen pretty. You know I did this on the 75mg Duragesic & ended up in the hospital. So, I guess tomorrow I will call pain clinic and tell them whats going on. Lasix is not helping w/problem at all.
Hope you start feeling btter and stop doing the yardwork, it sends you back to bed everytime. Hugs, Susie
I want you to know you are right it did send me back to bed.I'am not real sure about the pain meds it makes me feel like I'am here but not here if that makes any since.
That is what I hate about pain meds.Do you get that withthe pain pump?I hate that you are dealing with knee thing.I do have a question about the knee thing.
My left knee feel's like it is comeing out of joint and it pop's really bad and some time it hurt's to the point it will make me scream because of the pain.

No, the pump does give that funny feeling at all. The way its designed I am actually receiving less pain meds than what I was taking orally. Since the morphine is going straight to where the pain signals start, the medicine stops the signals to the brain that screams pain.
What is Endocet? I have never heard of it. As for the knee pain, watch for any swelling. Mine are back to popping very badly, even after having the lubricate injections, 5 in each knee, and oh they were painful. Never again. Take care & remmber every time we have a set back it takes so much longer to get back to where we were. Susie
BIG DIFFERENCE in ADDICTION to drugs an DEPENDENT on drugs for quality of life.

awe Flop, thanks! i just feel like sometimes people feel a stigma attached to having to use meds of any kind! especially pain meds. it's a touchy subject....you know.

This has been a hard subject for my to grown kids & husband to understand. My daughter and I have had numerous encounters over my pain meds which were narcotics. I would just tell her it was time for her to go home because I was tired of talking about the same thing over & over.
My son on the other hand was here nearly a month ago, he had picked up some tile for me. I noticed right off he was real short with me and I knew something was on his mind. After he finished putting the tile in the shed I told him I wanted to talk to him. So, we sat down and I asked him what was going on and why he was acting like he was mad at me. First thing out of his mouth was "Dad says you are addicted to drugs". I very calmly told him that yes I probably was because a person could not be on the drugs I was on for any length of time and not get addicted. But, I also reminded him that there are 2 kinds of addiction, recreational and medical necessity. I asked him which did he want to see, me laying in bed 4-5 days a week or up moving around trying to have a life. Thats when I told him about the morphine pump too. Since then, he has been his usual sweet self.
The hubby on the other hand, I would like to throttle and may yet. He is old school, so yes he has me labeled but I could really give a rats a**. For someone who is really so smart, he sure can be stupid. He has a chronic problem with circulation in his legs and is going to lose a leg if he keeps up. He goes to the dr but never does what he is suppose to, so I have no sympathy for him. He was dx'd w/diabetes, his mother was diabetic and lost a leg to it too. Right now, he has 2 open sores on the leg and is suppose to start wound care maybe next week. We will see how long he goes this time. So, he knows all about what can & will happen. He does not try to help himself. I will do anything to improve my quality of life and a chance to improve my health.
So, give me a label, I really don't care anymore. Hugs & Love to all, Susie
Susie,
I have a label for you. VERY BRAVE WOMAN. To endure what you do everyday with your disease is Heroic. You are always so upbeat and trying to help others, when you could use some TLC yourself.
A label is just that... doesn't matter how people label you, you know that without those meds, you could not funtion.
I am one that HATES pain meds (you know about my past, when my children were small) but when I hurt, I take them. Does that mean I am an addict..no. When I take my heart meds every day, does that mean I am an addict..no.
I am not exactly sure how this got turned into a debate here, from answering a question about pain meds, but YES, there is a big difference.
An addict will do just about anything to get a pill, shot, whatever to make them high. Help them escape from their problems, life whatever it is they do not want to face. Although most addicts do have their "drug of choice" most will take whatever they can get their hands on, and do not care who they hurt in the process.
They will use all the money they have to get the "fix" they need, no matter if they can not pay the rent, feed the children, have things like power, water..A lot of them do not even have a home because the rent money went for drugs.
A person with a debilitating disease such as most of us have,,,our label is DEPENDENT. We depend on the drugs that we take to allow us to sit, walk, stand, in some cases, the meds only give us enough relief to be able to lie in bed and breathe, but we depend on these drugs to allow us to do that. Without them, we would have no quality of life whatsoever, and even for some of us, we still have poor quality of life.
I was afraid of getting addicted to some of the drugs I have been put on. My husband told me.."So what, if you do you do, you have to do whatever is necessary to live". And he is right.
There are far to many labels in our society today, and yes someone may label me an addict. So be it. I say to them,,"come walk an hour in my shoes, then label me, if you must".

VERY nice response! Thanks!

Flopsie,
you sum it up beautifully! what a nice post. i don't think we were debating, i think we all agree this is a subject WE ALL encountered and felt labelled against. and it's sad. i really do hate how that whole epidemic of kids partying with Oxycontin was on the news like constantly, and now....a med which was very successful for pain management is like impossible to get a RX for because docs think they will create drug abusers.
this was a nice conversation! very intellect like!!!! dont ya think??? makes ya think! hey....lets talk about medical marijuana!
NO!!! just kidding!!!!!

Susie I can relate to husband thing my -ex did not feel that I needed pain meds we argued all the time about this,he had every one beliveing that I had a drug problem.
I told him that I really just did'nt care what he thought any moore.I told him he had no idear what kind of pain I was in and that untill he walked in my shoes not to judge me and sure as h***don't tell me that I don't need pain meds.
This alot of the reason we split,in other he gave me a choice either him are my meds. That and I got so tired of hearing things him put me down all the time.I mean he would go days to wear he would not talk to me and so on.
It just really bothers me when some one try's to judge me when they have no idear what they are even saying are what we are going through.
