Been reading your post on sinus problems related to GERD with interest. Ive had problems since gallbladder surgery almost 12 months ago.
Diagnosed with Asthma but it doesnt respond to medication of any kind so am now being treated for GERD (omeprazole 40mg daily) Sinus problems have just developed too-- Ive had antibiotics but it keeps coming back.
I also have a chronic cough since gall bladder removal. What i want to know is if you have a cough with GERD is it a dry cough or productive?
Mine is very productive & seems not to respond to any treatment known to the medical profession! Ive even been admitted to hospital in an effort to sort it but its still the same.
Any suggestions ?
Mine is more a dry cough. I never cough anything up. Sometimes at night when it's really bad and I wake up choking on the acid. Have you considered alergies. I have a milk alergy that causes horrible sinus problems and infections if I eat any thing with milk in it. If I don't treat the infections right away it goes down into my chest and then I start coughing up that icky green stuff. Hope this helps you out. Barb

Ive never smoked but sound like Ive been on 60 a day all my life!!!
Ive had recent allergy testing which showed nothing but you are the 2nd person who said it might be connected with dairy produce. I'm clutching at straws so I will give it ago.The only thing I'll miss will be chocolate.
I see the consultant again on 5/09 but am not expecting any useful outcome -I think he has given me up as a lost cause.
I also have Parkinson's Disease - is there anyone else out there with GERD, Asthma & PD?
Not all people with asthma have allergies. I think it sounds like asthma to me and the main thing is to get all the mucus out of your system. I hope it is clear or plain white. If it is gallons (I mean pints) of yellow or green, it could mean an infection. I have read that this mucus output is the body's way of defending itself over viruses, etc. Sounds like you might be run down. Can you rest? Can you eat real healthy?
A slight amount of color in mucus in the morning (sounds like a song) is normal.

I know what you mean Mayfly. My regular doc gave up on my heartburn when it came back a year after the operation to correct it failed. My voice is all raspy sounding from the reflux too. I hate it. They just keep shoving pills at me. He doesn't seem to think udoing the wrap halfway would help even though the surgeon thought it would help. Who knows with me. I do have to agree with Joan though it does sound like asthma and that's nothing to mess with. I would insist they test you for it. Good luck with that. Barb

Hi pandacrazy...I did not know what to say about your worrying about your son. It must be really nerve wracking for you. I am very tired of all these countries fighting. I am 61 and lived though Korea, VietNam and now these Persian Gulf wars. My husband died in a VA hospital and it was miserable. Thank goodness I was there to help him. We do not honor our veterans enough.
The new doc wants me to stay away from all reflux meds and will give me a BRAVO scope. Should have had that in the first place, I suspect. Take care of yourself everybody.

just popped over and saw this post... was at allergist two weeks ago to check for asthma cause i have been getting as cough and breathing issues shortly after i eat, when i wake up.. whenever..
asthma test fine but doc said gerd can cause my sinus problems, post nasal drip, coughing, and basically most of the problems i thought were allergies.. granted i am allergic to everything and tests confirmed it.. but doc moved me from prilosec otc back to protonix 40 mg and it has been a noticeable difference.. my gerd is from slow gastic emptying or slow motility... having endoscopy in two weeks cause its been four years and knock wood i hope there is no real damage...
but yeah, sinus can be irritated from acid vapors... causes post nasal drip...makes you sound like a 80 year old chain smoker.

Hi Joan, I am just glad he is back and I'm not going to think of him going back again until it happens because I know from the past if I worry about something it will just eat at my stomach. I still don't like to watch the news just the weather and then turn it. I hate war. I can still remember the awful scenes from vietnam on TV when I was a kid.

Hi, Barb...the bravo endoscopy is new. When they do the scope, they place a chip in you that monitors the acid in your system. The old way is to put a plastic strip in your esphagus and then remove it. Anyway with the new way the chip disappears and you wear a monitor. It is supposed to be gentler on you and you just return the monitor (probably to the hospital).
Thanks for rooting for me. I am also very happy to say that I did not have a sore or ulcer, he thinks it was probably a broken blood vessel. (That was probably from coughing with the asthma and all the yuk you get up). I had two nights with no reflux meds and feel fine.
I am very glad your son is back too and hope he does not get called up again. I remember the tragedy of VietNam too.

is it common to feel out of breath with gerd and not sleeping well?
I dont want to go to doc and have to take drugs, id rather try the natural way. Do you take anitibiotics . I do have a stopped up nose all the time and have to blow it maybe 3 times a day . I also just started having headaches by the temple forehead area on the side

Hi Joan, thanks for letting me know that. That sounds like the thing my doctor is going to do to me when they get that equipment in a few more months. There is talk of sending my son back in February. For his sake and my granddaughter I hope this doesn't happen. He is the only descent parent she has. When he gets full custody he is going to try to get transfered up by us and become a recruiter which is a non deployable position.
Warrior I have those problems with my gerd and asthma. You need to get that taken care of before you end up with asthma like me. It's nothing to mess with. Barb

Hi pandacrazy...did a little experiment and stopped taking the flonase nasal spray for a few days. It got worse. I started losing my voice more and having painful problems swallowing. So maybe I don't have reflux but should increase my flonase. I will wait and see what the bravo tests tells me.
I sure hope he doesn't get redeployed too. It would be good if he could get that recruitment position. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him and your granddaughter and you too! Gee, I'll have to use my toes!!!

Hi, I just wanted to respond...I have constant sinus infecstions and possibly gerd. I am really tired of the infections and the drs dont' know what else to do. I can relate to your posts and understand your problems.

Hi bleech, ttwarrior and MVanessa...and Panda Crazy...yes I am really interested in what the endoscopes show on other people. I agree that taking all these meds is a drag and BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH. We have to stick together all this band of throats!!!
I have been really tired with change of season here in the great Northeast but do not have any different problems with sore throat, bad taste in mouth, dry mouth, losing voice, etc. Same stuff, different day and I am happy to be taking one less pill a day. Must admit that I am not looking forward to new bravo endosocopy and hope for the best.

Hi, my symptoms right now include a bad headache, post nasal drip, dizziness, and tiredness. Slight sore throat. There is a weather change here too..went from the 80's to rainy and barely 60. This is very frustrating.

Hi Joan and everyone else, you would love the bravo thing if you have ever had the other thing. It was awful I had to have a little tube up my nose and down my throat and attached to a thing around my waiste. You could feel that thing evey time you swallowed. I had it done 2x back in 2000 before my operation. It was not fun. You must have the same weather we are having in Wisconsin Monika. Yuck! I hate winter, cold, rain, snow. Wish I lived in Arizona! lol. Barb

Vanessa...my allergist explained by way of picture how the sinus stuff gets caught in the tube which connects to your inner ear. The inner ear controls your sense of balance. They can test you for it and you give you a pill...which is called antivert or mezecline is the generic. Luckily you don't have to take an antibiotic for it.
I want to move to an igloo in the north pole...lol.

I always try to look on the bright side of things even with all my problems. It doesn't help to dwell on the bad stuff I've found. Not that I don't sometimes do that, but not for long. Brrrrr Joan the North pole. Wisconsin is cold enough for me. I hate the cold. Just keep trying different things and eventually you'll find something that helps even if it's just a little bit of relief we take what we can get. lol. I know I do anyway.
