hi every one .well let me tell you alittle about my self.i am a 25 year old migraine suffer.i started getting floaters and auras about 4 years ago .at the time my headaches wasnt really bad.up untill i had a baby 14 months ago.i had a spinal blck during a c-section where i was stuck 9 times in the back and it causes a csf leak.and a really bad headache.well cents then i have had bad auras at least 3 a week,with or with out a headache bad ringing in my right ear that comes and goes but is mostly there.dizzyspells.pounding pressure in my head when i stand to fast.i have to wear sunglasses every where i go because bright lights kill my eyes and cause auras.i cant stand noise.now since i had the baby my headaches are worse.mine are in my eyes.i have even got so dizzy i have threw up.i went so many doctors mostly ent's.well one said i had meineres disease.and others just didnt know.so much money wasted.and time.i was so feed up.they run a few test .they come back fine.i went to like 15 doctors.finally i went to a neuroligist.he said it was migraines.due to hormones.he started me on a low dose of topamax 15 mg.for one weekand then every week or two worked me up another 15mg now i am at 85 mg i have took this drug for 2 months.and the only sid affect so far for me is tingling in my feet every once in a while.and memory loss.which always comes back afew days after they stop uppering the dose.i can live with the side effects if it keepes helping.well let me tell you the auras are gone after two weeks of takeing topamax the ear ringing isint as bad but i dont think i am at the right dose yet.but i dont want to go up to much more.the dizziness is no where as bad as it use to be either.i have been able to return back to work.so thats a plus.also the floaters are gone.this past week the doctor also put me on pamelor to help with the migraines 20 mg a day plus i have anixity but it makes me sleepy.i do a follow up over the phone once a week to let the doctor know how it is working for me and it is.thank god for topamax.

Please is this drug still working for you and have you found that it has affected your sleep pattern? I am at present on 25mg bd and still experiance the occasional migraine which are now really weird they present in the night and feel as if someone has their fingers in my head probing around, never had this feeling before taking the drug (this has replaced the whooshing of the migraine coming on) It is early days and the pain from the migraines is nowhere near as excruiciating as it was without the topiramate. Hence I will persevere.
I'm happy for you that the topamax is working as it should. Make sure that you get regular blood tests for liver function just to make sure that it is not giving you the rare side effect of liver toxicity, which i got. After the first test or two, you don't need to take the blood test very often.
Cindy, did you get a blood patch for the leak after the spinal block? If not you should have! I had the same problem after surgery for my lung cancer and went through absolute hell with it and the worst part was no one at the hospital seemed to hear me when I kept telling them I had a horrible headache. I went home and was back the next day in the ER for 18 hours so very sick and then someone actually listened and they finally got an anesthiologist down to do a blood patch and the pain stopped. So you might want to ask about this as I have no idea how long these can leak....
But you are right about Topamax!!It is a great med for migraines IF it works for you! It doesn't for everyone but when it does, it is wonderful. I had 3 to 5 migraines a week and then got onto Topamax and now get 2 a year!! It is wonderful! I still get other type headaches but no more migraines!!!!

After 20 years of battling, trying many medications over the years, Triptans have been good for me for each migraine attack. I have averaged 3 a week for years.
I think Topamax has been available in Australia for a lot shorter time than elsewhere, but I have been taking the drug for one month. On 100mg now.
I have 100% success, have not taken one Zomig (Triptan) and experienced little side effects. I am taking another drug called lexapro for another problem and I don't know if there is any complimentory thing going on there.
So far.... so excellent! as far as the migraines go anyway
In the long term, I will need to keep up with my check ups and blood tests and keep track of things I spose.
