Unexplained agitation and depression

I posted previously that I could successfully come off of Entocort after being on it for 13 years. This did not last long and I flared up. So, my GI suggested taking a low dose of Entocort and adding 5 dexamethasone injections to pass this flare up. I only took 4 injections and took Entocort for 4 days and then stopped it. What happened was unexplainable. All of a sudden, I became very nervous and when I spoke, I would scream and not speak in a low tone as I normally do. I couldn’t figure out was wrong. My family was shocked and they left me in my room alone in hope that I would get better. I used to cry unintentionally. I asked other patients and some said that this depression was caused by steroids while others thought Rinvoq was the culprit. This is the third day I’m without either steroids or Rinvoq and my TI hurts severely. Will see my GI tomorrow. Did this happen to anyone before? I managed to talk to my family members today but all of a sudden I would start crying.
Steroids are well known for causing what you are describing. If you look up the potential side effects of steroids you will see what I am talking about. Lots of members in the UC forum are on Rinvog & I have not read of any of them having this happen.

Depression can be related to poor health, you have quite a history of having many issues relating to your crohns. Sorry this is happening to you. I got so bad I ended up with a counselor to help me get things in a better perspective.

Minnie,

Any steroid, whether cortico or anabolic can cause severe mood changes, depressive issues etc. Really doubt it's related to Rivoq. Your mood issues should improve in the coming weeks, but it might take a little time. To advise you to try to relax might seem insulting, but you really need to do that right now. Reading, biofeedback, meditation, prayer might all help you right now. Of course answers to your future treatment would be the best calming effect you can get. Keep us posted.
My daughter was diagnosed Feb. 19/07, (13 yrs. old at time of diagnosis), with Crohn's of the Terminal Illium. Has used Prednisone and Pentasa. Started Imuran (02/09), had an abdominal abscess (12/08). 2cm of Stricture.
Started Remicade in Feb. 2014, along with 100mgs. of Imuran.
Dear all, thank you so much. Saw my GI and he was surprised that a small dose of steroids would have caused all these problems. He prescribed an antidepressant for a short time and lowered my Rinvoq dose to 15 mg instead of 30 mg. He explained that he lowered the dose as I’ve developed a lot of side effects lately and I have no other option left. He convinced me that Entivyo is not the best choice as it is not successful with fistulas. My mood is much better but the flare up is uncontrollable.
