I'm just wondering if anyone else gets migraines when low pressure systems come in their area?
I have to say that I get some of my worst headaches when a system comes in. I live near Seattle, WA and we are always getting low pressure systems coming in, so it's becoming quite a problem.
I get headaches when storms are "brewing" too! One of my co-workers used to tell me it was the barimetric (sp?) pressure. I also get them when the weather changes dramatically, which is constant here in Missouri!
I'm also experiencing a dull "fuzzy" feeling on the right side of my head. It has lasted for about 4-5 days off and on. I do suffer from panic disorder and thought there might be a connection. It doesn't feel like my usual headaches. Any ideas?
I live in Seattle too! and i have noticed a increase in the occurance of my migraines and weather systems. I used to live in Virginia--not such dramatic unstable weather there. Out here it seems like the weather can't make up its mind. Personally i don't know why the weather forcasters even bother to predict anything. I just started seeing a new nueroligist (sp) about my headaches. I haven't discussed the relation to weather patterns with him yet. I plan to though. I'm glad that i am not crazy--others experience this too. Some people are just more receptive to changes in nature than others. Kinda sucks.
Singingmom, yes there is a connection...I know that panic and anxiety go hand in hand with migraines...I suffer from both too although my migraines are much better and I really only get them really bad during my menstral cycle.

Various weather patterns affect me too, rain, thunderstorm, bad snow storm and when it is really hot outside.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, and we get "Chinooks" that blow in A LOT. It's when a warm wind blows over the mountains and pushes the cold air out. The barometer drops dramatically in a very short period of time. The temperature can go from freezing cold to warm in a matter of minutes!!
So yes, I get incredible "chinook headaches" as they're called. I can predict the weather change up to two days in advance! My friends and family call me a walking weather station! Nothing gets rid of the pain except sleep and time.
I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with simple partial seizures due to my Lupus. As soon as I started taking anti-seizure medication the headaches stopped! We've had 3 Chinooks in those three weeks, and I haven't had a single migraine! Weird eh!! I have told my Neurologist and he is very curious about this!!
Oh thank goodness we are not alone ( me & my daughter), we have noticed that stormy weather tends to bring on headaches, I'm lucky in that mine dont always develope in to a full blown migraine but Rachel can get real stinkers! we also notice the air quality changing too, tends to taste diffrent ....more metalic and bitter and it can make me feel a bit sickly??!! Anyone else notice air taste or is it just us lol...
this is a HUGE trigger for me. I'm like a human barometer. I live in Vancouver Canada and whenever there's a change from nice weather to rain, i can predict it within a few hours.
I live in Dallas, TX. I have a headache and we are getting a forcasted couple of days of thunderstorms. The barrometric pressure is falling. This has happened to me in the past as well. I did a search and found this site. I'm sorry that others have the same problem but glad to know I am not alone. Now, other than prescription migraine medicine, are there any suggetions on OTC cures?
I have been having barimetric pressure headaches for about 20 years now. I don't remember having them when I was younger, but I'm 40 years old and they're getting worse. I'm in the middle of a bad one. The headache started two days ago, but the storm here in Indianapolis just broke through about an hour ago. I'm in bed with a heating pad across my forehead, but nothing seems to work for it, not even pain medicines. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I've been telling my doctors for years about these headaches and I've had several neurological tests that rule out anything more serious. All the doctor is capable of doing is prescribe more medicine. Help, if anyone can - the pain is unbearable.
Barimetric pressure headaches are the worse. I hate the nausea and pain and they seem to last for days. Nothing seems to work, not even strong pain medicines. If anyone has any suggestions, please respond ASAP. Thank you. Shesna
I live in the U.K and I have not ever met anyone that suffers from this problem. Whenever I have said this to people i usually get a funny look. i can remember watching a programme on the tv before about people that are physic. They tried to say that this woman could predict weather changes through her migraines because she had special powers? i have phases with migraines. At the moment i am getting them quite often. i mainly get my migraines when the weather becomes overcast or just before. My stomach just turns and the pressure on my head is incredible. Oh my gosh - I live in Missouri where it is very humid and rainy during the spring. My poor head can't take the changing weather systems. I have tried every over-the-counter med, plus a prescription from my doc. Nothing but time works! Anybody out there have some ideas for relief (short of moving, that is!)
I live in NC on the coast. Only recently, like the last 6 storms since June have I began to track what is going on. Especially the last 3 hurricaines. One is brewing right now and I have had a headache that takes over my whole head and all movements for 3 days. Sleep and being still is all that seems to help. Oh, and cusabi salad dressing seemed to clear me up, temporarily. My nose does get a little stuffy and my eyes just are as puffy as can be even with plenty of sleep, I look like I have been crying all night. Renee
I have horrible headaches when a low pressure front moves into the area. While I haven't found a cure for this, I have found a couple of things that ease the pain. 1. I take two (2) midrin capsules 1st thing! 2. A long warm bath, make sure to soak your face in the warm water as much as possible. The water pressure seems to relieve the pain. While this won't completely cure the headache, it will give me about 1/2 a day of relief. Good luck...
I have had migraines for 35 years. My worst offender, above even menstrual migraine, is weather migraines! While I am fairlly sucessful at depleating other migraines, the weather migraines have no cure. Wait it out seems so merciless but it is the only hope. I have trouble with any movement of the pressure - up or down- too fast, a storm, too hot, too cold, too humid all gives me trouble. I live in Minnesota and the one thing I now know that I did not before today is that I now have a response to all those who tell me "Maybe you should move to another state". I have seen representation of far away places, North, South, East and West and I see you all have the same trouble I do. So where would I move to? I even had headaches on vacation in Hawaii. I have the exact opposite issue. Migraines hit me when HIGH pressure systems move in... last time a Hurricane came through, I felt great (hurricanes have extremely low pressure). When a High pressure front moves in, I can feel it immediately. If it's moving fast, I have to leave work before it gets to the point that I can't drive myself home. Excedrine Migraine and a ton of caffiene usually lets me drive home - even if I have to stop and puke on the way. None of the traditional stuff worked for me. I now use Amerge - the price is outrageous. Along with the Amerge, I keep phenagryn (sp?) in the fridge - gotta stop the nausea long enough for the Amerge to take hold. All I can do is sleep until it subsides. The Amerge does make me sleepy, as does the phenagryn. I've often gone to sleep with a heating pad on my head, just make sure there's something around it so you don't wake up with a burned cheek :) Honestly though, for me - the MSG headaches are just as bad as the weather headaches.

My worst migraines (second to menstrual ones) are ones that seem to come along with weather fronts...low pressure, storm fronts, drastic weather changes etc.
My neurologist has told me that taking Frova before the headache, when you know a storm front is approaching...maybe keep the migraine from coming or at least being as strong. You might want to talk to your doctor about that or do a little research on your own to see what you can find out.
