Well

I was doing fine for quite some time now. No pain, no gas, no blood in stool, no watery stool, etc.
For the past week, I've been experiencing, very sudden bowel movements, with them all being choppy, but still, solid. No pain, no blood, no need to throw up, no stomach cramps.
I'm not concerned, staying calm, and I'm trying to think of something that could've caused this. about a week prior, I switched sodas, I know this sounds weird, but I typically drink RC or some form of Coke, and I switched to Dr. Pepper. Could that have something to play in this? Should I try switching other things in my diet as well and see if anything works? I've also been eating jerky last two weeks as well.
I don't want to worry my mom about this, and I don't really want to talk to my doctor about it at this point either.
What would you guys do?

Current Medications:
Apriso - (4) .375gm once a day, Advair Diskus - 100/50 twice a day, Azathiroprine - 75mg once a day, Allegra - 60mg twice a day, Nexium - 40mg once a day, Vitamin D - 50,000 IU once a day
Past Medications:
Colozal, Iron, Lialda, Prednisone

I'd start rectal meds. It's not the cola unless the dr. pepper might have artificial sweeteners in it.

Are you eating a good balanced diet?

Eat your calories rather than drink them...

I doubt it is the soda, but if jerky is something you didn't usually eat, it might have something in it that is irritating your gut, perhaps some kind of additive or preservative.

49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985.
Asacol for 20+ years with Prednisone & Rowasa for flares (But nothing since Remicade).
Food sensitivity test by Naturopath showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances, helped some.
Remicade started April 2009 (Humira denied) and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

My guess is the jerky. Just cut it out for a few days and see.
I used to love pepperoni sticks and took them on every road trip - not anymore.
Good luck!

Maybe your intuition is trying to tell you something about the soda. It would not hurt to stay off ALL soda for a couple of days and see if you find an improvement.

I hope your signature has a misprint: 50,000 IU of vitamin D every day is way too much. Doctors only prescribe 50,000 iu pills only for those in dire deficiency and even then it is only one pill per week. That is ten times the upper limit of 5,000 iu per day for those with moderate deficiency. If you have any questions then please see your doctor about this.

Watch diet while in remission, I find Psyllium seeds especially helpful.

Boswellia, E. Coli Nissle (Mutaflor), turmeric, fish oil, S. Copious amounts of fruit and vegetables, no soda, no hfcs, no trans fat, tea instead of coffee, very few processed foods, no carrageenan.

ditto on the jerky..high in fat and whatever else. eat real food.

Thing is, with this disease I have never changed my diet consisting of junk food.
The two things that irritate me the most are most vegetables and milk. Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, etc.
Oranges are another thing that make me sick.

I've done best, and this sounds weird, eating junk. When I eat 'healthy' food, I get worse. I've tried cutting sodas out before, but I've gotten physically sick trying.
I mean cutting out the Dr. Pepper can't really hurt, and cutting off the jerky won't either, I'll try it and see how it goes.

My doctor has never commented, or said, I need to stop eating Zebra Cakes, Pizza, and drinking Coke to me ever, I'm very healthy, and I burn what I eat, and I've never had a problem so he has never told me to stop. I know drastic changes in diet can really jack you up.

It's your non-common sense approach of eating that's interesting, don't blame it on your doc. It won't make your UC worse, however...or better...but it will help with some of your symptoms such as discomfort, loose stool if it's not UC-related, gas, etc.

You can have your cake and eat it too...and eating the veggies you mentioned would give me gas and discomfort. There are a million other foods that are good and nutritious....make sure you eat them as well.

You should be on rectal meds...what do you think?

You could also get on a probiotic and a fibre supplement to help bulk up the stool a bit and keep the colon in good "exercise"....helps also with some of the spasming.

Some of us here in the forum regularly take the amino acid glutamine because it is supposed to help repair digestive tissue. But according to Dr. Robert Atkins of the Atkins diet, glutamine is also a wonderful way to curb sugar addiction. So if you are trying to cut back on soda supplementing with glutamine may help with your cravings for sugar.

When I was young I too was able to eat all the junk food I wanted with no ill effects, not even weight gain. But that will change as you get older.

Well I don't know that it is a non-common sense approach of eating.
Think about it, I have changed my diet various times to cope with my UC, we all have.
The diet that has worked best is one where I stay away from foods that are labeled as healthy. I'm not saying I have tried everything though.

I will talk to my doctor and see what he thinks, I tried the rectal mesalamines a while back and they completely fixed my blood problem, but the only thing I fear with getting back on an old medication or getting on a new one is how it will affect me. Medications have really messed me up before, and I think it is that fear that is holding me back just a tad.

EDIT: That last part wasn't worded all that good. What I meant was, medications in the past have worsened the condition I was already in, it isn't like I was fine, and just switched meds for no reason and got sick again.
