I attended yesterday a one-day conference. It lasted the whole day so I had to eat 'forbidden' food. I couldn't get with my sandwiches as I normally do. Some places forbid this. Although I was very selective not to eat what would trigger a flare up, the flare up has already started. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the symptoms? I can't send my GI a message. I think I have to see him and that won't be soon. What should I do?

Crohn's can be very costly to one's career. That's a fact we have to face.
I have attended many meetings, conferences and seminars. I adamantly refused to eat any 'forbidden food', no matter what kind of pressure. For a whole-day conference like this, I would bring my own secret food or find some excuse to sneak out, even if it means embarrassment. What else can I do? A flare-up is even worse.
I do not know what food you ate or your symptoms. But I hope you stick with the 'easiest food' for the time being, and hope your symptoms improve as time goes by. Otherwise, if it gets really bad, you might need to go to ER.

EruditePaul, you're definitely right. I know that I'm mistaken. I have to come up with a plausible excuse since I have to attend a lot of events of that sort. I'm trying now to pass this flare up and feel like a zombie because of the large amounts of antispasmodics and celebrex that I'm taking.

Do you think the flare is related to the "forbidden food" you had, or could it a psychological effect? Many IBDers eat whatever they like when not having related issues. Having one avoidance food on a single occassion shouldn't be a huge concern. You could just try a liquid diet for a day or so, then go low residue for a few more days and see how you feel after that. Hope you're feeling better soon.
73monte, after suffering for 3 days, the flare up finally passed. I took a lot of antispasmodics then and celebrex. For me, I think it was food related.

May we know what the forbidden was?
Since it has passed and you are ok now?
