Sorry to hear you're currently "sinking" in pain....that's awful. I agree that some Flexeril would help relax you, but certainly your doc who did the rhyzotmy should be aware that you're so miserable. Call him again? And again...! Be a pest! That's what he gets for not helping you! You should not be in this much pain; it will hamper your recovery, as you can't get better while your body is sending out such severe messages.
I've returned to teaching full-time, as I was home on disability since last October....whew! What LONG days they've become! I used to cruise right thru them, but now, with the CP, it's a real challenge! I do get so busy w/ the kids that mostly I can "distract" myself during the day...but once home, I'm wiped out! My back is in flames & my psyche is "shot" from re-routing all that energy all day....I need to get thru to June, then looking @ a rhyzotomy @ L4/L5/S1 over the summer. Unless something else comes up, heaven forbid!
So keep being the squeeky wheel! Scream, yell, bellow---do what you must to make it clear you are not doing well & need some assistance!
You're, as always, in my thoughts. I worry about you!

Hi Lakeside,
I am really glad that you are back to teaching, I think the kids will definately keep your mind busy. I think it is good therapy to be so busy, I want to go back to work, but it will be a little while yet. I am proud of you for fighting through even though it's tough. I wish you the best and I will be here if you need to vent, I know It makes me feel better. Hope you have a great week. Take care and keep on keepin on:)

Hi Lakeside,
I was just wondering how you are doing? I also have questions about teaching. I am considering going to school for that, but I have anxiety about public speaking. I think I would be o.k. with the kids, but I know this is something I have to get over if I want to teach. Did you have any issues with public speaking? Just hoping you could give me some insight. Thanks, hope you are doing well:)

To answer your question about fear of public speaking: it would depend on the grade leve, I would think. I've taught @ the college & high school levels, as well as my current elementary position, & "fear" only entered into the piture while I was teaching college (people are paying $$$ for your courses, etc) but it didn't last long. If you know what you're talking about & are well-prepared, as a good teacher is, you'll have no problem. People want to like their teachers, I've found. Your audience is usualy accepting & friendly---students want to learn & will be quite warm & receptive towards teachers who respect them, make lessons interesting & informative & treat them with kindness & fairness. I've never had a problem & I'm sure you wouldn't either, as you'd be well-trained & in charge of your subject matter. If you have the credentials, it's no more stressful than talking to a group of friends.
Go for it! We aging Boomers will be leaving classrooms in droves over the next few years.....there will be many many jobs aviailable. Teaching is a "calling" & you sound like you've been called! Answer it! :) You'll never be sorry!
As always, the very best to you as you endure your CP & recovery period. Be gentle to yourself.
