Question for the veterans, since i am new to this lyme and its politicalness. have studies like this been released/published before, only to have limited or little impact?
their seem to be a lot of studies going on now, some with a lot of potential (like the study led by Specter with JH, Tulane, etc.). tryin to get a feel what it would take for this gain acceptance. I assume that since lyme is so negatively engrained in modern medicine by the likes of CDC/IDSA that even if a breakthrough would happen, LLMDs would still be the first to know and utilize any cutting edge testing or treatment, meaning its still 10 or 20 years out. and maybe even further out for real treatments to get into the hands of PCPs

I really don't see PCP's ever treating it. It's going to have to be a specialist.
There's too much to consider for the PCP to treat anything other than a recent infection IMO.
Same as cancer, heart disease...etc.

thanks. yeah that was two years ago too, curious what compound he is referring to that he wouldnt divulge. he seemed to allude that whatever compounds were being evaluated would solve all the problems in the near term. I assume its something people are using now. interestingly he refers to the 10% too with PTLDS, wish that term was dropped

the compound is disulfiram. im not sure what happened to their in vivo/mice tests ... they have not published anything.
Girlie, i agree unless it turns out to be some really simple solution like a single drug, similar to the 2-3 weeks of doxy. otherwise, ID doctors will have to be educated and trained. either way, LLMDs will be first to know any new treatment approaches

8 mL tubes of inoculated medium were filled to minimize the airspace present, thus providing a microaerobic environment, and incubated at 32 °C. Culture fluid was examined by darkfield microscopy for visible spirochetes weekly for up to 4 weeks. Cultures were concentrated by centrifuging the fluid at 15,000 g for 20 min, retaining the pellet and discarding the supernatant. For imaging, a small amount of culture pellet was resuspended in 50 μL 0.85% saline solution, washed and centrifuged again. The pellet was mixed with gelatin and then fixed with formalin for further staining.
Lol mpost I know how to find the materials and methods section. That doesn't include a discussion of why they were successful when others haven't been. What you listed is pretty basic and doesn't highlight anything that might explain their success since I'm sure everyone in the history of culturing borrelia has followed a similar protocol. The only thing I can come up with that is notably different is that they used genital secretions.

he is talking about vancomycin which is intravenous and comsidered very strong abx for life threatening cases.
well.... the guy tried the whole US drug bank on borrelia and saw that nothing kills it, so he is aiming at best abx he could find in his tests.
